On the CD, there is a directory, I think it is called BUDS, or something like that.

In one of the configuration files, there is a PATH line, that points to that directory on the CD.

If you copy the directory from the CD to the hard drive, and edit the path to point to the new location, the game will look for the files on the CD in that new location.

And welcome to subsim.

The directory on the CD is named BUD.

This config file is named : SHPATH.INI. Located in the install directory of the game.

The directory named BUD contains 16 vid files (type SMK). You must edit the config file named SHPATH.INI and replace :

Quote:
BUD =X:\SH\BUD\

(X: is the name of your CD drive. You will read on your config "d:", "e:" or any other letter, depending of the number of your HD, CD or DVD drives...)
by
Quote:
BUD =BUD\
In fact, it disables the security test (made by the system by checking some files located on the CD, in the BUD directory).

Good luck in your missions !

Cheers.

Thanks for all your help. Got it running. Am I cheating by sneaking
into enemy harbours and shooting sitting ducks? Although Gunther
Prien did it, I find it quite rewarding. Cheers.

"De rien, à ton service".

Sneaking is not cheating, it's just war ...

Cheers.

Kind of, and kind of not. Real-life US skippers did more harbor raids than the Germans, but the "harbors" were small unguarded ports where merchant ships would pick up supplies for tansport. There were usually not more than one or two escorts there, if any, and they were in the habit of tying up somewhere and sitting.

If you attack a major naval base and sink warships, then no, it's not realistic.

Gunther Prien didn't just say "Hey! I think I'll attack Scapa Flow!" He was sent on a special mission by Admiral Doenitz himself, with much planning and aerial recon photos.
