My first SH5 picture, no editing. I just love how the scenery looks in SH5, very good eye candy indeed.

Bernard, will you move!

Okay, so finally got to visit Bergen, and she actually doesn't look that bad ingame, accuracy-wise (lowest graphics setting).

First off, of course, is Bergen! Looking okay on the map, certainly much, much better than in Silent Hunter III, but it looks like they've pretty much just taken the terrain contours and built a harbour around them. The lake in the south is connected to the fjord in reality, and the island with the wave-breakers in the north doesn't exist at all in real-life. Lakesvåg, south of the city, where the u-boat pens were and still are, seems completely barren.

Trondheim is another disappointment - the Nid river, which runs through the city, isn't there and the Munkholmen island (which pays host to a star fortress) is also missing. I'm not expecting Ubi to go through the trouble of modelling a whole fortress for some relatively backwater harbour, but the island should have been included.
Narvik is a northern town at the end of a fjord that was the site of the Battles of Narvik, where a large number of German naval vessels were sunk by the British navy. I've never been there and can't say better than any of you how accurate its depiction is, but comparing it to the map I have at my disposal, it doesn't look very accurate.

Oslo, "field of the gods" -- the Tiger City is the biggest let-down. There's apparently nothing there. Sure, it may not play much of a role u-boat warfare-wise, but shouldn't the capital city of a nation get as much or more attention than its smaller cities? Only thing they've slapped down is a marker that pretty much says "all right, just pretend there's a city here".

Many harbors (game-wise important) are exact copies in shape (less in content) of actual real-world harbors. The more important/iconic ones have actual buildings modeled (just go and see for example Malta or New York, even Rio de Janeiro...)

Others that were less important had less attention paid to them.
The ones that didn't have an important role in SH5 were made with generic harbor parts for speed.

Small missing details are due to the real-world terrain data which is not that "real" (because of resolution, noise, etc), so small mistakes might exist...you just can't accurately model the entire globe.

Cue harbour/terrain editors.

U-69 has just made sound contact to an outbound convoy from Tyne. Flank speed! Course 270! Hunt is on!
