Thousands of people stuck on a cruise ship in Hong Kong for four days have been allowed to disembark after tests for coronavirus came back negative.

Some 3,600 passengers and crew on the World Dream ship were quarantined amid fears some staff could have contracted the virus on a previous voyage.

Another cruise ship where dozens of cases have been confirmed remains in quarantine off Japan.

Scientist Who Discovered Ebola: Britain Faces ‘Major’ Coronavirus Outbreak.

Quote:
The United Kingdom is facing a “major outbreak” of the deadly coronavirus, warns the scientist who co-discovered the Ebola virus in Africa.

As the death toll for the coronavirus officially surpasses that of the SARS outbreak in 2003, the director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Peter Piot, said that he is “increasingly alarmed” by the rapidly spreading virus, saying that it is a “greater threat” than Ebola.

“It’s a greater threat because of the mode of transmission. The potential for spread is much, much higher. If the number of people who get infected is huge, then that will also kill a number of people”, Piot told The Times.

“In today’s world, no epidemic remains just a local affair. What happens thousands and thousands of miles from here in China has the potential of causing a major outbreak here”, warned the professor.

Mr Piot said that he is concerned about the capability of Britain’s socialised medical system, the National Health Service (NHS), to cope with an outbreak of the virus.

“You know how already overburdened the NHS is and if you’ve got a sudden major rise in cases of pneumonia or milder respiratory infections… The NHS can hardly cope with the normal situation,” he explained.

I thought it was supposed to take up to two weeks for symptoms to develop with Kung Flu? I hope those tests are accurate.

Same here in the USA especially in rural area's

Can you imagine the entire state of California, Oregon, Utah, Nevada and Arizona in a lock down situation, plus Las Vegas closed till further notice?

That's what China is experiencing right now to contain the outbreak

Something tells me a cure is right around the corner for only $49 a pill

Which food is that? Wheat? California is a huge agricultural state.

" Furthermore, California's Central Valley is one of the most productive agricultural regions on Earth, growing over half the country's fruits, vegetables, and nuts.[14]"

66 newly confirmed coronavirus cases aboard the Diamond Princess ship docked in Yokohama.
Quote:
That brings the total number of cases on the ship to 136, nearly doubling the previous total of 70 confirmed cases yesterday.

Number of confirmed infected almost doubled in one day.

139 positive out of 336 tested. Very high infection rate.

Coronavirus is airborne, Chinese official warns.
Quote:
An official in Shanghai confirmed the virus wasn't just passed on through human contact, but can float long distances through the air.
https://10daily.com.au/news/a200210w...warns-20200210

This is a very serious development.

By the way, surgical masks do not protect the wearer from becoming infected if airborne contact is made. To avoid airborne infection, at the very minimum, an N95 mask tightly fitted around the face, plus goggles is required. But having said that, wearing these masks and goggles is not practical on a daily basis. Washing your hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds each time and staying away from those who are sneezing or coughing is the best practical protection. Also, try to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Only those showing symptoms such as high fever are being segregated on the Diamond Princess.
Quote:
Several members of the Diamond Princess crew have appealed for help from the Indian government, and alleged that they are at risk of infection by not being segregated.

"We are extremely scared at this point in time," Binay Kumar Sarkar said in a video obtained by CNN. "Our request is to segregate the crew members from the infected."

"Only people who are recording temperatures higher than 37.5 degree Celsius are being checked," Sarkar said.

Crazy. Sounds like the whole ship will eventually become infected before this is over.

everyone gets influenza, a high fever and feels like hell from time to time. But the vast, vast majority of the population gets over it and life goes on. Whats most concerning, for me anyway, is the case fatality rate. Rate now is well below that of SARS lets hope it stays there.

And lets hope the chinese, pagans and christians will learn to cultivate and eat something besides pigs, bats and snakes.

Agreed. The only problem is this coronavirus is 40x deadlier than influenza, and influenza kills tens of thousands every year in the US alone. If and when medical facilities become overwhelmed like they have in China, death rates will soar.

Anecdotal story: My wife and I went to a very popular local Chinese restaurant here in Japan this last Sunday evening that is always crowded. Well, the parking lot was half empty and there was no waiting. Many empty tables. First time I've ever seen it like that. People here are scared.

Just under a fifth of known cases of the new coronavirus in the worst-affected region in China may result in death, from Imperial College London estimates.

Researchers from the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis have found that the case fatality ratio (CFR) for people in Hubei province is 18% – this however may reflect the most severe cases that the overwhelmed health system is treating, with other less severe cases not being recorded.
