THE SAILOR'S 23RD PSALM
The Lord is my pilot, I shall not go adrift;
He lighteth my passage across dark channels;
He steereth me through the deep waters,
He keepeth my log.
He guideth me by the evening star for my safety's sake.
Yea, though I sail mid the thunders and tempests of life,
I shall fear no peril, for Thou art with me,
Thy stars and heavens, they comfort me.
The vastness of thy sea upholds me.
Surely fair winds and safe harbors shall be found
All the days of my life;
And I shall moor, fast and secure, forever.
Amen.

Though I never knew of him and I could not find any information about his Naval Awards, what I was able to learn about him was that he was an amazing person that always seemed to step and do something, not just talk about it.

These are traits that most impress me in anyone that has been blessed with this trait, as it is a rare gift, and he seemed to have had it.

It is sad that he is gone but, it's much better that he will be remembered for all he had given during his time with us.

May he Rest In Peace.

Rest in Peace Captain Alford, a sad day indeed for the Submarine Community.

As a limey Brit, I think it's important to salute the service of those like Zeb not only to their own country, but also their service to the world, and the stability that they've brought to it. Without couragous people like him serving, acting as defenders of peace - long before I was even born - in a world that will so easily decend into chaos without vigilance; who knows what kind of world we would have?

"O, God, Thy sea is so great, and my boat is so small."
Plaque presented to President Kennedy by Vice Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, "Father of the Nuclear Navy."
