Default A bugbear

One thing that has always irked me about SH4 - why on earth is there a Lancaster in USAAF colours (a few years too early - afaik they left their planes unpainted from 1944 onwards) instead of a B17 or B24? And I don't think the Lancaster ever saw service in the PTO. Was there a copyright issue (I doubt it - MicroProse made a B-17 sim in 1992) or sheer laziness on the part of the devs?

I agree, Allied aircraft are in pretty much every way FUBAR in SH from the generic types provided to way they spawn, behave etc.

If I recall UBI was being cheap and did not want to pay to use the proper allied aircraft, likely a matter out of devs hands.

The way they spawn, behave etc reeks of bad design designs and in and failure to properly test things. Instead of creating a new way in SH 4, basically copied SH 3 from what I understand. Just how US fleetboats only have two engines instead of four, no independent engine control etc.

Just remember, Ubisoft bought SSI / Aegis's "Silent Hunter", but did not bring a lot of people with them. They then spent like three years doing Silent Hunter II for the U-Boats, and Destroyer Command, which I went out and bought like a dum-dum. The two never did function even close to correctly together, until several modders on SubSim took a crack at it, and lo and behold - I could finally get my destroyer sunk by an online player! lol - So they started on SHIII and an all-new engine and game - sort of... of course, a lot of the SH2 guys didn't come over for SH3... How many updates did SH3 go through during its "supported" lifetime? I lost count... Anyway, if you look at the Air folder Rosters, you will see the Lancaster... so anyway, they spent entirely too much money on making SH3, they had to save money when doing SH4... "I know! We have this HUGE roster over in SH3, and nobody will ever notice the difference between a Lancaster and a B17! They both have wings! The both have windows! They both drop bombs - hopefully!"... The rest is history. I wonder if SH5 has a Lancaster in it?...

Just looked... &...

Yeah, there is in the "roster/british" folder, a LBLancaster.cfg file.

In the data/Air folder, there is in there, a folder tagged as "ALB_Lancaster".
