Default Silent Hunter Commander for SH4

Is there a version of SH3 Commander for Silent Hunter IV? Or does the SH3 Commander work with Silent Hunter IV 1.4? No mods right now. Silent Hunter 3 w/GWX2.1 is very familiar but I'm newbie with SHIV and it's mods n' stuff.

Short answer is no.

Long answer is a somewhat hot topic but in a nutshell the original creator of SH3commander was browbeat by the community at large and declared 'never again'.

Actually he declared long before any of that happened that there would be no SH4 Commander. And a couple of other people have been working on something similar for SH4, but it's taking time.

And the person who took most of the flak for the final 'browbeating' has had several good conversations with the author since and they get along quite nicely, thank you.

Hey guys I know it's been several years sence this thread was posted on. However i was wondering if there was and progress on making a SH4 Commander? The options and spontaneity that SH3 Commander added to SH3 was in my opinion unmatched. Haveing somthing similar for SH4 would add yet anouther fantastic side to a alredy great game.

Sorry, but no. As far as I know nobody has even tried. At this point it looks like it's never going to happen. This is disappointing to me because my Ship Names mod for Commander would have so much more flexibility with SH4.

If you mean files within the game, they don't affect Commander at all, it's the other way around.

If you mean Commander's files, they are copyrighted, and the sole property of Jaesen Jones. To create an SH4 Commander would require a professional-level programmer creating an entirely new program from scratch.

Kim's Tools here:
http://www.subsowespac.org/silent-hunter-4-mods.shtml

Have some of the functionality you are looking for... like Hawks Tools - specifically his Toolbox 2000.

Select boat, patrol area, etc

Configured for the "Guerrilla Submarines Spyron Mod" however the ID numbers for any mission in any campaign are easy to find.

I would ask how I missed this before now, but it was probably because I'm old, blind, and wasn't paying attention in class.

Thanks, Art. This is brilliant!

Sorry for reviving and very old thread. But is it possible to find the Toolbox 2000?

On s7rikeback's site is a page for Kim Ronhof:

https://www.mediafire.com/?c5e6f58gec1cy#81bgz3dabc33b

which has the cypher machine and the toolbox, which also includes the report generator. Not too much documentation, since SoWesPac dot org went down, but enough to get you going, and experiment after that. Be aware though, that Win10 does NOT like the Toolbox...

btw, Art passed away a while back, and is dearly missed. Super fellow that got me into sub sims and SubSim, and he and I would go "on patrol" in SH1, SHII, and SH4. Died much too young.

So always heard about SH 3 Commander and read about it, but what makes it so mentionable? Just curious what set it apart.

It integrates with options for the game, that you are able to alter as you load the game, instead of having to do a bunch of JSGME mod activating / de-activating before doing various patrols. It also can introduce pseudo-random for some of those choices. Since the "random" is based on DirectX v9.0c, it is not a true "random", though to us mere mortals, it seems like it...

It started as a patrol log editor, where you could add things to your patrol log for RP purposes, but then evolved into part memory editor, part mod enabler based on time / RNG, part save editor, part crew management mod.

You could have patrols start at a certain location / time, war patrols end before war end, skins change based on time, e.g. game time was past a certain date and the mod for certain skins would be applied, by sort of automatically JSGMEing it. You could, for example, add random mods to simulate unknown enemy upgrades, to make things interesting, or you could change an interior (for example remove a PPI cabinet if you only had SJ Radar). Of course these mods would need to exist in order to be enabled. It could also make things break to randomly to simulate reliability / sabotage of equipment.

Here's the best explanation of what it does I could find, please ignore any judgements on the author. I never used SH3 commander myself, but a lot of people really liked it:

http://www.donitzeliteflotilla.com/f...sg3703#msg3703

Some of this can be recreated using a memory editor, if you know where the values are stored and many games have pre compiled entries for the various memory debuggers that already exist, e.g. cheat engine, if one were so inclined.
