Default SH 3 - Save games crushing

Hello there!
I start immediately with my excuses as I understand there might be another thread solving this. I tried to search, really, but between work and studies and with already a week of wasted evenings with no good results, I hope you'll pardon if I open a new thread.

I finally bought back SH3 about a month ago. I remember playing the game back in the day and God knows where the old CD went. Anyway, I got caught by nostalgia and I bought the game on Uplay. Also I installed the Greywolves mod just as shown in their site. I didn't add any of those other mods you can find inside JSGME, launched the game and started enjoying my time... for about 2 patrols.

One week ago I set sails for the third patrol and, since then, every time I try to reload my last savings, the game crashes. I reset the third patrol three times already, as apparently the very last save that works it's the one ending the previous patrol, in office. Yesterday I had time to play for one hour, I tried again to start from where I could (the ending of the second patrol), and saved multiple times, every time I sunk a ship. Today I tried to load 4 different save files, obviously deleting the newst ones when switching the a previous file. I lost everything again.

I tried multiple suggestion I've found in this forum ("deleted" older saves to lighten the Savegame folder; put the exe in Windows XP compatibility; changed SH3 folders indexing; uninstalled and installed again all the mods; uninstalled and installed again the vanilla game) but, as I already said, nothing worked.

I really hope someone can help me out, the game just grabbed me again and it will be painful to have done all of this just to be stopped by some bug.

Thank you all for the help and hopefully my english is good enough to make me understandable. ^^

1. Get the 4gb patch and apply it. Google will show various places to get it. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll upload it.

2. These files solved my GWX ctds.

Thank you very much for your reply. I couldn't try any of your solutions as I'm still busy and have no time to play. I will let you know as soon as I have time to relax a little!

I finally had some time to spare and try your solutions. Apparently the very first worked fine and I was able to play around 2-3 hours, closing and restarting the game on purpose multiple times.
The saves seem to work well now, and the performance also improved, so I guess it is solved! A huge thank you to you for helping me and having the patience to wait my answer.

P.S. Funny thing: I was in my third patrol of the campaign, and I lost multiple times the latest save. So I got back to the first save game working and I had something incredible and never happened before: about 10 merchant ships sunk and a random HMS Nelson while she was sailing to Scapa Flow. I think the game was asking for forgiveness
