Why would the dems want to keep someone in that position who from the start had been leashed by a small extremist group within his own block to do their bidding? Why do people expect them to support a speaker from the opposition who during his tenure hasn't done anything to convince them of being the right person for that job? On the contrary, McCarthy and his party did everything to widen the gap.

From the onset McCarthy's position was weak, always at the mercy of aforementioned small group, and everyone knew that he would be gone as soon as he loses their support.

If the situation had been the same with only the parties exchanged not a single republican would have come to McCarthy's aid, either.

Well they did more than not come to his aid, the actively voted against him. The ouster would have failed if not for them. Of course now they are going to have to deal with a replacement that will almost certainly be worse on them than McCarthy was so they may have shot themselves in the foot.

Which is exactly why President Trump should become Speaker of the House. All those RINOS are as scared of him(and his huge voting block of actual votes as opposed to magic votes) as they are scared of the democrats defacto banana republic. He'll force them to be republicans, and they can hide from the wrath of the democrat banana republic behind President Trump because the banana republic with direct all their "fire" at President Trump.

President Trump is only person who can lead the Republican party and all those Bushies ought to get onboard. They live or die with him.
