I hope this free alpha time ends soon

because everytime when I'm behind my computer around 22.00GMT+1 I'm like ''I'm going to play this game a bit...but before that let's dig a hole and build something in Minecraft for like an half hour''

then something like 4 hours later around 1 - 2 AM ....still in minecraft

I can only imagine. Turning around to a random farm animal creeps me out. Especially since they look straight at you.

I've added windows to the base floor of my soon to be castle. I'm working in my little creative area forging iron. I turn around and see something looking at me through the window. Nearly died of a heart attack. Took me a second to realize it was only a sheep. Part of the problem is I read the urban legend that's supposedly in the game.

I know how you feel. When I originally downloaded the game around 3am(it's now 8am), I decided I was going to play this for a while, and then play two other games. That didn't happen.

I just reached the bedrock in one of my many shafts. So instead of digging down I start digging to the left, come upon gold and coal, get the coal I can, but I had to leave the gold due to only having a stone pick. So I go back to my ladder and start digging in the opposite direction of last time. Come upon Redstone and coal.

So I have gone back up to my original level, and I'm going to start another tunnel in hopes I found some Iron. In hindsight I should of used my last batch of iron to make iron tools again instead of making tracks for one of my other tunnels.

Just extracted 5 pieces of gold, 11 pieces of iron, and 20 pieces of coal before my iron pickaxe broke.

At one point I'm standing over this piece of stone in between pieces of bedrock. I'm about to smash my pick axe into it when I think Hmmm maybe I should step off it first. I step to the side, and smash through it. Through my newly created hole I see the "void"

For me I found the best trick when mining is to use stone tools (picks and shovels) for everything until you hit a seam where you need iron.

I also think the amount of iron in this game that you get from mining (ie effort vs reward) is paltry compared to my needs for it.

Plus I am starting to get a little bored. I reworked my mine cart track so it can carry me there and back, and expanded my castle structure a good bit too, but I'm running out of ideas that I want to bother with.

I do however kind of wish that this game and dwarf fortress would have a baby

Aye, that's what I do, easy to replace yet still pretty effective tools for mining.

Meanwhile, my unnamed base gets an extension in the form of greenhouse.

Caused a forest fire once; playing with fire is dangerous in this game.

Here's one of my oldest projects in my current game, need to get back it it. Anywho, it's a mapping tower, once I find a natural cave or break surface from one of my mines I mark it with torches (for mines I make a torch trail back to base) and this tower allows me to see where's something worth exploring. It's maybe half way finished, just making a glass lobby and then head up for a few more floors.

Trail from shaft A leading back to base (to the right).

EDIT: Ow and Minecraft's site says they hope to get everything fixed today.

Well now I'm thoroughly hooked. Spent hours upon hours yesterday reclaiming a large portion of open sea and merging two islands together. Built a stone wall clear down to bedrock to hold the seawater back and opened up all that land into a strip mine. I only kept enough soil to grow a few trees, the rest was pitched out anywhere I could dump it.

All that work and all I built was one wimpy tower.

At some point I was working in the deep mine and found the void. Lost so much stuff when I fell through and died that I decided to start over. This game is way addictive.

That's a great idea! Don't know why it didn't cross my mind.

Just loaded my save, need to turn my iron and gold ore into actual usable medal, and make some pickaxes.

Should I make gold tools?

Been saving a single iron pickaxe from my first batch or iron. Still use stone swords, axes, pickaxes, etc. to do the everyday stuff.

Got a nice stash of metal saved up, but nothing to really use it on. Thinking of building a bridge from my home "fort" to that tower and put a minecart on top.

Most if not all gold items are pretty much the same as wooden ones. Don't think there's much use for it atm.

Gold is a soft metal so it wouldn't be so good for tools.
