Casper Daily Tribune: Entire Nation Plunged Into Deep Sadness At Passing Of President Harding Through Sudden Stroke. "HARDING'S DEATH STUNS NATION; PRESIDENT COOLIDGE SWORN IN"/"Father Gives Coolidge Oath". The inauguration of Calvin Coolidge as 30th President of the United States was held at the family home in Plymouth Notch, Vermont at 2:47 a.m. Coolidge took the oath of office from his father John Calvin Coolidge, Sr., the local notary public, by the light of a kerosene lamp. Men load President Harding's coffin on to a train in San Francisco, where he died, for the trip to Washington, D.C. Ship Losses: Dina Accame (Italy) The cargo ship caught fire and sank at Genoa, Liguria.

The state funeral for the late president Warren G. Harding was held in the United States Capitol rotunda. Ship Losses: Aberdeen (United States) The 48-gross register ton, 52.1-foot (15.9 m) fishing vessel was destroyed by fire on the north end of Gravina Island in the Alexander Archipelago in Southeast Alaska. Baron Blantyre (United Kingdom) The cargo ship departed Port Natal, South Africa for Adelaide, South Australia. Presumed foundered with the loss of all hands. Saian Maru (Japan) The ship sailed on this date, no further trace.
