Could anyone point me in the direction of a good freeware program to play around with my screenshots. As my current program free trial has ended.

I made quite good experiences with the GNU Image Maipulation Program. It's something like an "Open Source Photoshop". Unfortunately this makes it's usage a bit uncomfortable (and is best used with a dual-head monitor-setup).

If you just want to add some effects and frames to your screenshots without all the layer-stuff, the less complex PhotoFiltré might be your program of choice. It's the program I use for manipulating my screenshots atm.
It lets you apply basic filters, alas without much control over the result. But then again, this makes it quite easy to use. All my screens in this thread were done with PhotoFiltré (this, this and this)
