As for sharing, you are breaking the copyright and that could bring both you and filefront into trouble. Most likely they will nuke the files if they find out. You might possibly get a nastygram from ubi lawyers too.
I have submitted this to FileFront! UbiSoft does not respond to Silent Hunter 1... I am not requesting an opinion. I am searching for genuine routs to insure the release is legal and honest. I am not trying to give a sale item away free. I only wish to share a game I have which others can no-longer find.

Besides, I uploaded it, but I have not released the file to the public as of yet...

Because it is their property to do with as they please. They paid for it, so it is their call. I have a lot of stuff in my home that I no longer use on a regular or frequent basis, but that doesn't mean that anyone can just take it.

This is true, but where are they. I think they are hiding from me!!!

Default Remember Doom? TombRaider 1??

These were also abandon and after an un-known statute of limitatioins ran out, Computer Rennaisance began selling them on floppy... 5 bucks each !! I believe Ubi avoids this issue for 1 and/or 2 reasons:

1) Sh1 is difficult to run on Windows newer orerating system.

2) They purchased the company, but saved a few bucks by not purchasing the rights to the game!

Make sure your sh1 files are in a folder on your drive.
Run dfend and make a profile for sh1. Just play with all the options. You'll see. It will work.
I just read a post about Silent Hunter 1 and Xp
I zipped these files then deleted them:

COPYR.SMK
LOGO444.SMK
SHIN.SMK

Now the game runs without any external help!
Seem these intro videos no longer work with Windows.

A copy of DIG.INI:

DEVICE Creative Labs Sound Blaster or 100% compatible
DRIVER SBLASTER.DIG
IO_ADDR 220h

DMA_8_BIT -1
DMA_16_BIT -1

... and a copy of MDI.INI

;

DEVICE Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro (new version)
DRIVER SBPRO2.MDI
IO_ADDR 220h

DMA_16_BIT -1

Maybe this can help you to run the game from windows directly

Just to clarify:

If you get EXPLICIT and WRITTEN permission from UBI -current copyright owner- you can share the game. If not, forget about posting links to it in this forums, or even insinuating something about it, even if it is giving them away per private messaging. Susbism's policy is very strict about that.

You can go to other forums that are appropiate for such things, that's your choice, but please stick to what we have said so far. I don't want misunderstandings later in case you try to share that game here

Default Release Silent Hunter 1

We should petition the owners on this site to help in the release of Silent hunter 1. After all, they suggest references to this game without any access to the game itself, purchase or otherwise. Stating that it is no longer available is disheartening.
Try and one may suceed.

I have submitted this game to FileFront but I just want to clairify the fact that no links have ever been posted anywhere that allow it to be downloaded. I could write a letter to UbiSoft today explaining my dificulties with my web research, but this game was released in the US years ago and this is a French company now. We are in international waters.... Poly Vu

Email ir@ubisoft.fr

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'Email ir@ubisoft.fr'. Subject 'Silent Hunter One', Account: 'mail.ISP.net', Server: 'mail.ISP.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '501 X.X.X Bad recipient address syntax', Port: XX, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 501, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

You see, the address does not exhist!

This release could promote the more advanced, Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific, but is it of coporate interest through international relations to become involved with an old game on some small website out in the middle of no-where?

Then it is a matter of insuring the owners of this site grant permission for this release. Does anyone know how to contact them? Maybe thay can help with navigating through these rough seas. I think the release of little Silent Hunter one may be a nice addition to any Submarine Simulater website.

Just trying to be friendly.

Excellent . No more DOSBox needed (worked fine, but was a bit jerky with sounds).

My only problem now is that mouse is a bit slow, but it is definitely an improvement. If I wasn't so addicted to Pacific Aces:rotfl:
