The whole church is a statement of power and politics. Begun under Theodoric the Great and taken over by the Byzantines under Justinian and Theodora.

How much of the mosaic work is the original Gothic stuff is anyones guess, but prepared mosaics were brought over from Constantinople and overlayed the original ones depicting the Gothic King and his Court.....can you guess which ones are not original ???
