ps that dual mount 5.5 inch really is something ! yesterday I played peabody's convoy attack mission (I usually get sunk at the end of either of his missions...) got two ships with my first salvo of type 89's, the third missed (I know I should fire first at the farthest target but...), then my other two salvoes didn't sink much, a damn liberty ship even refused to sink after one hit !

so I surfaced and engaged in a gun battle with the two escorts at first, sank them then engaged the third one.

one by one the ships went down.. thanks to this beautiful gun

I've heard rumors that only respectable captains will be able to obtain it...

Even Admirals like promotions thanks P. These folks at Nimitz are being really nice. They think the project sounds fascinating. So I am hopeful we may be able to find what there is. atleast on this side of the Pacific.

/me salutes

Ya, but if I promote you, then you go from Admiral to Politician.

Banzai! Anton! Amazing. This is a WAR cruise of IJN sub I-10 active duty IJN submarine, Ketos knows about this movie (see his post below) and has posted about it ....great to see this life....

Peabody sir and K, these might make a great addition to the read me for the Campaign, they give an amazing insight in to sub service in IJN..!!

Here is the info on the sub, the I - 10
http://www.combinedfleet.com/I10.htm

Title of movies 1 -6 translate to:

Indian Navy's submarine record乗務Empire of Japan # 1-6
(Indian Ocean Submarine Cruise Record Empire of Japan)

So far in first one, getting ready to put to sea pics... NCO Petty oifficer overseeing deck work, Crew Muster

crew muster dockside

, Torp loading,

down the hatch..

Resupply with food Marked for IJN sub service only (premium supplies) ....

detail of conning tower as resupply crew head for fore hatch

wow, what amazing insights into the IJN sub service! A skipper or other officer giving indoc to crew about a misison into the Indian ocean!

Faces of the crew at the briefing, chances are, with high losses of IJN subs, that none of these men survived the war......we are seeing the faces of our counterparts...and it is a moving thing to think on....

Champagne Toast for Officers and NCO's, officers have the sun helmets and on active duty the captain has a darker helmet.

No. 2 shows perfect shot of disposition of Bridge crew underway. topside underway, excellent shot of main bridge below, as well as helmsman in conning tower, with close up of dials! Chow line Japanese style...sushi! i think it was still flapping Detailed shots of Navigator and middy class in nav, More excellent ship board life shots, underway in heavy weather, foul weather gear, actual voice recordings ( i am guessing but not sure), engine room underway, and crash dive proceedure crew coming below being timed by the officers.

that is great K, good to know, it is exciting to see those pics. Quite a feeling to see them in real life.

I-10 Departing Port

smoke break

bridge crew at sea stations

Sea Bridge helsman station

View Below

Chow Time....

Officers's Mess has china and tableclothes....

Navigation old style....shooting with the sextant...

Charting...from narrator they have reached Afrika, and are working the sea lanes from the Suez Canal

the Gauges

No. 3 shows sack time IJN style, amazingly little space! Battle Stations alert (they use a bell alarum plus loudspeaker), crew manning stations for dive, and actual footage of bow going under, and great view of diving planes and the planesmen at their stations! Periscope in action, view thru it, command bridge, and sufacing with an underwater cam catching the view from the bow. Deck gun crew manning gun and in action. Crew daily routine, Crew playing Go ! (looks like a close game ) And officers playing cards.

Highlight of No. 4 so far....narrator saying "Bon Appetit!" and shot of crew picking up fish from the foredeck for dinner And close up of flying fish! Vitamins at dinner! Ships doc doing his work. Note: officers have special strip on shirt. ah ha! they used special dilating eye drops for night vision! Very moving view of Captain coming on the bridge stopping to bow to Emperor's shrine, great series of him climbing up to the top of the conning tower, gives details of those spaces. Torpedo firing proceedure, timed. Hand signal passing.

No. 5 Shipboard routine, taking on a passenger for interrogation... stations for systems underway view...

at stations undeway

on the scope

sinking Allied ship (merchant) at night with deck gun, survivors taken on board, !!!!

Pre action Officers Conference

that's the movie Gochin !

IJN I-10 fifth war patrol - all RL !!!

I have the whole movie, I used a few shots (depth gauge with crescent arrow) for my dials.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ghlight=gochin

gosh doesn't anyone ever read my threads ?????

I made a sound mod with the sounds from that movie awhile back including the dive alarm ...

here :
http://files.filefront.com/IJN+sound.../fileinfo.html

I received the movie from Zaza in Japan a year ago.So someone cut it to pieces and posted them on Utube, I only posted a couple shots myself.

and this intriguing detail from behind him is the speaking tube array, a sound powered system that will work even if power is lost

View Aft Below Conning Tower

View Fo'rard below Tower

Sack Time

not a lot of room

they used Bugles for sounding some formal ship functions like getting underweigh, and buzzers and voice tube and hand signals aboard ship and the bell gong for station calls

Officer on Deck about to sound Action Stations, that little thing hanging down is the plunger to push to sound the alaarum...bell

Battle Stations, ship sighted....Bow submerging watching the bow dive planes in action...

Diving stations.....and the gauges

Engine Room....

it was Keltos and Anton who found this it is a wonderful wonderful resource....and may be unique....what a find

A new Target apparently was sighted and a confernce and orders followed on the attack bridge....

and some orders are passed or confirmed by hand signals between watertight compartments..

Torpedo loaded on sighting of new target....

Target sighted....

target in range....

torpedos are fired by a full crew in the forward TT room, you can hear the release, they used 2, and the impact!

and the result....

another victim...

a survivor is pulled aboard.....

and marched off for interogation....

and interviewed in the officers mess....i hope he survived....

intriguing details of shipboard routine and operations are shared...

insturments and gauges...

Dials....

the ship's Shrine which had a written prayer, possibly for the Emperor, placed at it each day, and was also prayed at before going on watch i think....

Crew praying...

offiicer saying prayer before going topside....

I hope they have found Peace whereever they are now.... this is a remarkable chance to see and feel the life these men led and the boats that the IJN manned in that distant time, yet not so long ago.

Salute.

(ED: This ship was lost with all hands, and declared lost, suspected to have been sunk by two US ships, observing the crew in action one can see the problems the IJN had with their drive train and slow diving speed, you can watch times crash dives and other manuver in the film and watch the time it takes for them by stopwatch held by officers.)
