Few questions:
- does the game have wolfpacks ?
- can one do night surface attacks ? Hopefully the unrealistic night periscope attack isn't the norm.
- are aircraft in the game ?
- is there another way to determine range and speed vs. the "have your periscope up for an unrealistic amount of time while you time/measure the target" method ? Don't care for that method in SH3 either fwiw.

- are aircraft in the game ? yes, they are deadly, lots of fun shooting them down tho

it's a very good game. Try UBE mod. (tip: launch the app, fire up a career, go back to menu, relaunch a career. Still a beta, there are bugs that get generated at first launch of a new career that don't get generated after a second launch, with UBE at least)

Thanks for the answers. Good to hear moonlight comes into play as it doesn't in SH3 but should.
One other; do the escorts primarily use asdic as was done historically, or does the game's escorts mistakenly use hydrophones primarily ala SH3 ?

I have it but I have difficulty keeping playing it. Too much creative license taken, too many areas where it was clear research wasn’t done (boat itself, crew structure and behavior, missions etc), lack of basic things like a compass that have to be modded in, I don’t know. And I know I am a rivet counter, but even putting that aside. It does not strike me as a serious attempt at a subsim, and it’s disappointing that the devs did not pay attention to the things that, modded or not, made SH a great series. However I will say the modding community is very good, and I have faith that they will take the game places. Just want to set expectations from one old subsimmer to another.

Appreciate it derstosstrupp. I highly value your opinion.

Currently playing it. I absolutely love it! This game has come a long way in it's evolution. Having said that, it can be fun one second, then totally overwhelming the next, and that kinda kills it for me, in some ways.

I am going to give it a try. It's been on steam wish list a long time, just so I can track it's development. At $11.99 sound like a deal to me.

I am presently having a lot of fun with it. It's a totally different concept, I find it fun.

I've been away from the genre for awhile, and just got back into it.

I bought UBoat the other day, and have been playing it a lot. So far, I love it.

I also picked up Wolfpack and Crush Depth, and have also reinstalled all the usual suspects, and my other naval titles.

I now realize how much I missed my subs and ships.

This title? Yeah, buy it. Great stuff!

Yes, I'm still around, arthritis and all, LOL!

I'm never really gone, though. Just more talkative at times. I still love my naval sims and strategy games (retired real-life Navy).

But my wife bought me a Pro-Flight Trainer a while back, cyclic, collective, and anti-torque pedals all-in-one, so I got a little absorbed in flying helicopters in DCS and X-Plane for a while.

But I needed some Naval warfare and military strategy time to satisfy my soul, so I bought some of the newer titles that I didn't have, and added them to the usual suspects.

I'm REALLY liking UBOAT.

I am with you. I want to like UBoat, I really do but you laid it out, they really fouled up in historical accuracy department.. I've decided to wait until modders have had a chance to improve things.

Wanting devs to make a simulation historically accurate is not rivet counting btw lol. Quality and accuracy issue.

Got it recently on sale And am enjoying it to be honest, it's far from perfect but is improving. With further development and mods, it should improve even more.
