Does anybody still play Silent Hunter 2?

It's the only Subsim I have except Silent Hunter Mobile for Iphone. I'm wondering if people still play it and if it's possible to still play online. I'm looking to get a new computer so.......

Hi, i've ordered Destroyer Command, so i would be also interessed in playing online for the future. Hope it will arrive next week, so i'd give it a try offline first.

Silent Hunter 2 was fun enough in it's day, but I don't think I could ever go back to it now.

Don't get me wrong, in several respects it was superior to the later titles (I'm thinking of engine management, random damage, able to manually control red lighting and, IIRC, it also had a far better simulated acoustic environment than the later games,) but in so many ways it was utterly superseded by SH3. The campaign was awful for a start and while I don't think a sub sim has ever had a better career mode than Aces of the Deep, the campaigns in SH3 and SH4 were genius compared to what SH2 shipped with.

I'm sure there are still people playing it on line with DC - I thought DC was better, to be honest, and I would love someone to make a new version of it.

I got the idea, when we had the meeting in copenhagen. At the same time Inglourious Basterds was running in the cinemas in copenhagen. It's from there I got it. I change the word as you can see.

The only on I've attended was the 2008 meet in Houston. You can read the whole story here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=129586

And the "good parts" version here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=143186

And the short version is that we got together and had a great time. Went to the Seawolf park and couldn't spend the night on the sub because of the wreckage caused by hurricane Ike, but we helped clean up the park. Went shooting at the range, visited USS Texas (BB-35), discussed the future possible sub sim that turned into SH5, and mostly got to spend time with people we only knew from Subsim. Good food, good people, good times.

Awww man

Sounds really fun. I've only been to U-505. And there wasn't much to see I remember but that was back before I liked submarines so I would love to go again or go see other subs.

I loved DC and would love a new version (or a mod for SH4 or SH5).
I never had any luck playing it against SH2 online, the server would crash after about one hour.

I loved DC too. There are many of us here that, like you, would love a new version, but that would never happen.

A DC that's comp. to SHIII and SHIV.
One could always hope, that there are a few, computerfreaks out there who loves DC and developed a newer version.

Silent Hunter 2,had in my opinion, no further good graphics, which was not entirely unexpected.

DC is great with all the Fletcher Mod, but is getting old. I'd too like to see a "modern" version of DC using at least a game engine similar or equivalent to SHIII.

PA is great too!.
