Default SOLVED: SH5 Ubisoft Updater failing to connect

Hi,

returning to SH5 and I've fallen at the first hurdle of running it.

I installed from my disk copy, ran C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Support\GameUpdater\gu.exe which successfully connected and downloaded the 1.2 update but now when I try to run the game by running C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\sh5.exe I get an error trying to connect to UbiSoft during the update check phase.

A service is unavailable.
A Ubisoft service is unavialable at the moment. Please try again later.

I cleared out my hosts file.
Disabled Windows Firewall
Run as administrator
Run as Windows 7 mode
Changed all perms on C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5 to BUILTIN\User FullControl
Created an any/any rule from my PC IP to WAN for any destination and service.

What have I missed?

Thanks,

Hedley

TLDR: I had to download UPLAY.

I've done some further digging and it looks like I need to download UPLAY.

My forum searches for Ubisoft didn't surface this.

Let me do this and report back.

Thank you for the solution

I had the same issue after installing two days ago from a disc. I bought this game in 2016 but never had a graphics card that could run it, until now. So it has been languishing on my shelf until I ponied up the money for a new graphics card.
