gear New guy, wondering what is the best Silent Hunter?

So I've just joined this forum and would like to ask your guys opinion on the best Silent Hunter game with a mix of mods etc. ?

I do like SH3 but it seems so dated, I do enjoy the walk around feature of SH5 and updated graphics but I'm annoyed at its buggy nature. I'm not so interested in SH4 since I am more interested in commanding U-Boats.

So SH3 has a Grey Wolves mod pack and SH5 has a Wolves of Steel mod, what is the best mix? What shall I download?

Can't wait to hear your opinions.

Thanks,

Call me biased but GWX is by far the most popular supermod but if I were you I'd give them both a spin then decide what suits you best.

Welcome Aboard!

I prefer SH5 with TWoS for its better graphics and more stable platform. It just doesn't crash on me, and no bad saves. I use the disk version, which can be purchased from Amazon.

As always, it depends on what you want out of the game. SH5 does indeed have the better graphics and with Wolves of Steel it provides an experience that many players love.

I, however, am a fan of the Type II U-boat, and you can't have that with SH5, so I stick with SH3 + GWX and a host of other add-on mods. I have yet to find anything that suits my personal fancy as well.

Welcome to Subsim Glennington. As a few here have said, SH3 with GWX seems to be the gold standard with which everything else is compared. The good news is you can gave multiple installs of SH3 with GWX, living Silent Hunter and others on the same computer. This way, you can play them all and decide which you like best.

SH4 and 5 also have mods so you can try them all out as well. Enjoy your time here and of course, your simulations.

Ahoy Kaleuns!

I have the same decision to make: which SH I should play? I bought SH-1, SH-2 and SH-3 years ago, and now I'm currently playing SH-2 for nostalgia reasons. But I know that in a near future I will play one of SH-3 or SH-5 (I haven't the last one, but I can buy it on amazon.es in a pack including 3 to 5 at a reasonable price).

That's important to me is to learn manual firing of torpedoes, and having a career (I know I will be killed in 1941 or 1942 for sure ).

Could I install the german version of SH-5 in english? I mean, it is a multilanguage installer? As far as I know, I must register SH-5 on the Ubisoft web, so I'm afraid of delaying the buy of SH-5 and that registration was lately impossible. (I know that SH Online was closed, for example).

Greetings from Spain!
