I tell what it is/was Many years ago I got a warning(red card) for having written a word you used in your latest comment-Not the one I'm quoting. Throughout the years I have seen friends using this word even against others without any sanction from the mods. I'm not mad, sad or so. Markus

I'm unaware who gave you a warning/red card for using such terminology but I seriously doubt it was me.

Well, Steve could be "a little Nazi" at times when it came to the 1:1 implementation of rules, (his own words), but I think he sometimes overdid it with the rules, took them too literal. I got myself two or three warnings by him, too - and an excuse via PM for giving them, that he did not want to do it, but the rules, you now... LOL)
Markus - or should I call you Data from now on -, calling somebody personally an idiot in the forum is one (non-acceptable) thing, using the word in a non-personal , more indirect, fact-oriented context is something different. Or like in my specific case here: using the word "idiot" in an obvious joke. The rudeness in the reply is what is giving the point, at least is a major part of that joke.

Context matters, except when it doesn't.

You're right sorry for derailing my own thread.
Lets go back to discuss this Open Chat GPT. and what it may end with. Markus

If man were meant to fly, he'd have wings. This chat bot thing is probably the acorn from which the mighty oak of Skynet will grow.
As long as my assorted naval and military games run and don't give me too much grief, I'll just stay out here in the middle of nowhere and try to ignore the world to the best of my ability. And if I feel like chatting, I'll either post here among like-minded naval and military sim enthusiasts, or talk to my wife if the topic is non-naval/military. Eventually, they'll brew up some grand new "improvement" that will be the end of all of us. It makes me glad that I'm old. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. But when the world finally wakes up to that fact, it will be too late. |

You better believe it. But now, while it is in it's infancy, the powers that be will use it for control and to subtlety disseminate propaganda.

Its absolutely possible that biological evolution of life is meant to be only a prelude, a preparatory step for machinery evolution and machine-based mind.
With the latter showing to be the lasting, superior, surviving form of mind. In the end, these carbon-based hulls of ours are all too easy to break. And they are certainbly not made for space travel and for enduring these long periods of time, exposed to energies and radiations and forces of destruction that are beyond imagination. If maybe one far, far away day human minds will travel to the stars indeed, it will not be machines carrying our bodies but it will be our minds having become the machine itself that undertakes such journeys.

Yes, and I believe Skybird was using the word idiot in an imaginary conversation with a bot, not calling another member an idiot, which is what the rule is for.
Not sure what happened in 2012 but Steve could be overzealous. Reversed! Your record is clean!
