Default AOD aircraft

Love how the aircraft in AOD are actually a threat vs. the ones in SH3. Especially like how the wildcat is paired with Avengers off the escort carriers as was the case historically.

Aboard the British "Woolworth" escort carriers, oft built in America: HMS's Archer, Audacity, Biter, Dasher, Battler, Hunter, Chaser, Fencer, Stalker, Pursuer, Striker, Searcher, Ravager, Tracker, Slinger, et al, to name a few, those aircraft were Tarpons & Martlets! Of particular note however, my avatar, U-666, was sunk by depthchargeshttps://i-com.cdn.gaijin.net/monthly...94783d46de.jpg from a Swordfish off the HMS Fencer, Feb. 10, 1944, with all 51 hands lost.

Yes, "Wildcats & Avengers" vs. "Tarpons & Martlets" reminds me of the old George Carlin skit about football vs. baseball.

One Avenger isn't bad, you can shoot it down. The Wildcat peels off and circles outside your anti-aircraft gun range, updating your position for other a/c and surface escorts to come to you.

If you want to get rid of the pesky snoop, dive to periscope depth and immediately resurface and man your gun crews as the plane turns in on your position. Same is true of the other a/c that hover just our of range.

Your trouble begins when you get two sorties of TBM/F4F, in addition to a lone TBM and or Liberator in your area. Make the choice to dive early or fight it out but once the escorts start closing in under 6000 yards, you need to dive.

Be aware, the TBM Avengers come in two versions; some drop depth charges, some are labeled AvengerT with the homing torpedo. The Liberators also have a mix of d/c or torpedo and you can go DEEP (+200M) and still get hit by torpedo's. They seem to peter out after about 20 minutes but don't be in a hurry to come up above 180M for at least 20 min. Damage changes too, depending.

Last note, if possible get into and under the convoy. The torpedo's often hit/sink the merchant ships or with all the propeller noises you can evade them.

Same applies with Catalina's, though three Cats at a time is very hairy!

Good Luck!
Tim
