Default U 113 (IXC) - 1st War Patrol - Awards & Promotions

Sunday, 14 September 1941 - Lorient

B.d.U. Assessment:

A solid war patrol by this highly decorated commander with a new boat and crew, returning to active duty after having served in a training flotilla and encountering a changed situation at the front. The boat encountered heavy enemy air cover in the area between the Hebrides and Iceland, as well as the Bay of Biscay. The loss of two crew members on 6 August, is to be attested to this new situation.
Furthermore, the enemy now has the possibility of avoiding the Uboat positions, which caused the boat to encounter only independently traveling ships, with the exception of the small convoy eliminated on 7 August.
For this reason, B.d.U. has given the directive of cyphering of the grid indicators and the limiting of knowledge of the key to departments to which this knowledge is indispensable, to prevent the enemy being unable to gain any information on U-boat dispositions from the Communications Service.
The loss of life at the sinking of the passenger ships on August 5 and August 17, have to be blamed on the captains of the sunken ships, as the commander took every precaution in both cases, to limit the number of civilian casualties.

Karl Dönitz
Vizeadmiral & B.d.U.

Currently U-110 a type IXB U-boat is conducting a special operation given by BDU in late April 1940, the mission is to hop between various allied ports and sink any high value targets, large warships or tankers
This is dangerous since the waters are so shallow but worth it in terms of the war effort

Default After 15 years of gameplay Sunk the Hood!

Wow. Been playing the game since 2007 and before tonight I had only seen the Hood once before in game.

09SEP39

U-34, type VIIA
Oblt. Gunter Lauer

On first patrol of the war. Sighted task force SE of Iceland. ID'd Hood, Renown class BC and two cruisers escorted by about 5 destroyers. They closed to about 10,000 m and I sent a long range spread of 4 torpedoes(WO assist, I'm not that good!).

Figured maybe I would get at best one or two hits. All four hit! She slowed and quietly rolled to port and slid to the bottom.

Escorts never detected me.

Almost anti-climatic...

But, still WOW.

Yep, I also, let my XO do the torpedo shooting during surface attacks. For submerged attacks, "Der Alte" has to do it himself

Air reconnaissance found a convoy steering 270° at 1240h in AL 6262. The aircraft reported about 20 steamers from 10,000 to 20,000 GRT, 6 patrol boats, 4 destroyers. It appeared at first as if this convoy is going to America and not Gibraltar, on account of the size of the ships and the courses observed. On its return flight a second aircraft picked up the convoy again at 1500h and reported it in AL 6283 with course 200°. Both positions have been given to the boats, which received orders to operate on this convoy. Air reconnaissance has been detailed for tomorrow in the area concerned.

Received Op.-Orders:
1. Outbound transfer on Path "Kernleder" until Point "Kern" (200m-Line).
2. Deep Dive Trial on Point "Kern" to 2A-Meter.
3. After successful deep dive trial, first status report from Qu.18BF.

Asmus Nicolai Clausen), which was an escort for the U-boat supply ship "Kota Pinang" and which was cruising in the Atlantic together with this ship, reported that the "Kota Pinang" was sunk from a distance by shell-fire from a cruiser of the Belfast Class in BE 7722. It has saved the entire crew (119 men) and has started on return to base. Its diving capacity is restricted by this additional load of men. It has been arranged with the Naval War Staff to hand over this crew in Ferrol, as it is not justifiable for U 129 to pass through the Bay of Biscay under the circumstances. U 129 received orders to do this.

0518 - Morning Dawn. New course 301°. 2xH.F.

0630 - Sunrise. Weather unchanged since last Etmal.

0909 - Qu.4255BF -

0930 - Boat is operating on ship contact report 0920/4. New course 128°.

1050 - Outbound steamer sighted bearing 331°, E=14000, on opposite course of the inbound ship contact, which also coming into sight, bearing 10°, E=14000.

The outbound steamer is a Refrigeration Ship of 4185ts, draught 5.8m and the inbound steamer is an Ore-II-Freighter of 3400ts, draught 5.8m. As the Refrigeration Ship has a wider field of view than the Ore Freighter, new course 180° is set, in order to get closer to both steamers on the surface, without being sighted be either.

1100 - New course 135°. The wind speed is still 13m/s and the boat is lee-ward. Therefore, the torpedo running depth has to be set between 3.25-5.2m. With the draught of both ships being 5.8m, a torpedo running depth of 4m is set for all bow torpedoes (G7e, Pi-G7H).

1101 - Incoming F.T.: From B.d.U.:
