Default Small Leigh Light Mod for GWX & NYGM.

Made this last spring, ran across it today and figured I might as well upload it.
It makes the lights available only from 6/42 as was historically the case vs. all the time. UPDATE 8/23/21: The GWX Sunderland is equipped with a light but never carried one historically so it's .eqp file has been changed to reflect that. The Wellington has also been added to the mod.
See the readme for details.

Everything is done much easier and without using Commander files

[Equipment *]
NodeName=L01
LinkName=REF_Leigh
StartDate=19420601
EndDate=19451231

And only at Wellington!
[Equipment *]
NodeName=L01
LinkName=REF_DustBin
StartDate=19420601
EndDate=19451231

1. Instructions for not using Commander are in the readme. I like using the date function of Commander a lot for many things; that way one doesn't have to remember to put in the files vis JSGME at the appropriate time, etc.
Either option is available in the mod.

2. I know; the Wellington was. But the Wellington didn't have the 3d work done to it for the light and the Sunderland did in the two mods iirc.

I'm not familar with how to do that work so left things as the mods have them.
Maybe I'll take a look at what was done at some point.

Was just looking at that myself. Not sure why they had the Sunderland with it, but when I get the chance I'll take it out and put the Wellington in.

radar Re: Leigh light use...

As I recall, they did outfit several different aircraft out with those lights... both on the RAF side & the U.S. side.

Will forward, as much info on different aircraft as I find them... during My, research.

1st up:

Liberator aircraft of Royal Air Force Coastal Command. 26 February 1944.

https://i.pinimg.com/564x/d7/07/c5/d...6954070e18.jpg

Also found this tidbit, no photo's to show their use of the light, though... on the Catalina's.

1. The Turret type, fitted on Wellington aircraft.

2. The Nacelle type, fitted on Catalinas and Liberators.

Note: light used on # 1, were 24" sized, maximum beam intensity was 50 million candelas without the spreading lens and about 20 million candelas with the lens. The searchlight was mounted in a retractable under-turret controlled by hydraulic motor and ram.

Whereas the lights used on #2, were a 20" searchlight, slung from the bomb lugs on the wing. The controls were electric and the maximum beam intensity was 90 million candelas without the spreading lens and about 17 million with the lens.

They did trial it on Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers, but due to the poor performance, caused by the weigh of the equipment (light-power source-armament) it was scrapped as a suitable platform for the lights, as it caused the plane to operate with a top speed marginally above the stall speed.
