Default Wireless Woes

Ok - I admit -I don't like wireless. But, I don't have a choice right now. So I am running a g network with 2 machines - both pci recievers. The cards in the 2 pc's are the same. The one in the kids machine works fine. Mine has a solid 4bar signal - but occasionally just drops. Shows networks available, but when you make it reconnect (which it SHOULD do automagically) it craps out, details show nothing more than pre-authorize success and authorize failure.

The network is secured by passcode and also was set by mac address. AES (WPA2) is also enabled, so no cleartexting of packets.

Here is where it REALLY gets odd. When my net dies, the other machine (located less than 15' away) is still up. I can see the signal, just can't rejoin the network. Later it will autorejoin. If I reboot while its out, I get connected for about 45 seconds, then it drops. Signal strength is fine. I have tried deleting and readding the adapter, rebuilding the ip stack, (even though it showed good) but I'm drawing a blank. The drops are entirely random.

At this point, I am leaning toward the reciever itself being flaky. With the other machine up constantly, that rules out the router (barring some ungodly config issue) - and a config issue wouldn't manifest itself randomly.

Ideas anyone?

Isn't there a reset button on the back of the wireless?

Sounds like it's about time... the scenario is familiar and last time a simple reset solved it.

Don't forget to setup wireless again, admin, pw, etc.

Tried that a couple of times - reset up from scratch. Also - have tried with and without broadcasting the SSID - doesn't matter either way.

Try switch the cards... maybe it's just the one in your machine.

Or your machine's setup is the problem.

Otherwise you're lucky, that these receivers are as cheap as they are.

Could it maybe be a faulty usb port? I've heard that switching usb ports helps in some cases.
Just a thought

Never gone wireless due to mentioned problems, am sticking to a wired network as I've been using that since my days at University.
