Default New & frustrated

Hi All,
New to the forum. I've been "playing" SH since version 1 and have always loved the game, ever more so with each evolution... until SH5. God, it's awful. The graphics are pretty good but what has happened to the user interface? Where are all the controls? How are you supposed to order a helm change when at the chart table? What the heck are the rest of my crew doing while I'm doing all the work? Instructions, what instructions?

I bought the new version immediately on seeing it for sale and only found the discussion groups after giving up after three hours of frustration. After my second attempt at getting to grips with it I've joined the forum with the hope of downloading some mods from the geniuses out there who have volunteered to do Ubisoft's job for them.

All I really want is the same immersive experience I've had with previous editions, with a not unrealistic expectation of improved graphics.

WELCOME ABOARD!

Have a look around the forums. We have two each (one regular and one for mods) for each game (from SH3 onward - SH2, SH1 and Aces Of the Deep are to be found in the Classic Subsims forum).

Have patience - there's a new patch coming soon, and it looks like it will help quite a bit. At least I hope so.

Thanks Steve
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the whole "mod" thing & can't figure out how to apply/install any. What's JSGME & where would I find it? It seems I need this for DarkWraiths mods and some others.

JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler. You don't have to use it for anything; it just makes it a whole lot easier to apply mods and take them back out if there's trouble.

You can download it from the link in his sig.

Thanks for the welcome Herren (und Dame).

Got it, installed it, & have set up a few mods ready for setting SH5 up like the old days. However, I persisted with the unmodded "improved" version & have sunk my first three merchants, with assistance from the downloaded TDC helpfile. The destroyers are a bit whimpy.

Got to say that it's not a lot of fun compared to earlier versions, & seems a little variable to say the least. I still can't see why my crew expect me to do everything... almost like they've mutinied! Next thing will be I've got to go below & reload the tubes.

At least I can now get some form of satisfaction for my money, but I seriously doubt that I'll ever buy another SH if this is how the developers treat users.

Your not alone in what you say...but each to their own.
