Default Type IX U-Boat mod help

I noticed that a lot of people have been wanting a type IX uboat in this game. Even though I'm happy destroying the entire British merchant fleet in my type VII, I've decided to help a little.
Here are some of the specs:
Deck gun-10.5 cm, 110 rounds
Torpedo tubes-6,2 stern, 4 bow
Test depth-230 metres (750 feet)
Torpedoes-22 (A,B,C,C/40) 24 (type D)
AA- various, most commonly 20mm to 37mm

There is also a good-looking mod out there that gives your type VII the fuel and torpedoes of a type IX.
Anybody can contribute to this thread, images would help the person trying to make a IX the most!

Default Sinking of the Laconia

Theres a great TV movie out there called the sinking of the Laconia, and a large portion of it is set on a type IX U-boat (U-156)
Could be a good starting point

Er... don't really know how to tell you, but that's not the help they need. Every modder knows perfectly well how a Typ-IX looked like. The problem is it's a HUGE work to make a 3D model and get it into SH5. They tried to import the SH4 models but they are very different so it might even be better to make one from scratch.

So, your energy is awesome but that's not the problem at all. Lots of us would love to see a Typ-IX in SH5 but _if_ we ever get to see it, it won't be in a short time, at all... sorry to carry the bad news!

Don't worry, I'm glad your being honest with me. I've heard about a Silent Hunter 4 mod called Wolves of the Kaiser were they turned a campaign in the Pacific into the First Battle of the Atlantic. The guys who made that might be working on a IX (RIGHT GUYS,RIGHT?)but Silent Hunter 5 is more complex and...***t!

SH5 uses the Granny system for storing 3D model data. That is the big obstacle with SH5. The only non-commercial software that can even begin to edit these files (that I know of) is my GR2 Editor/Viewer WIP.

There is a mod about this, it changes the type VII specifications to a IX boat

the exterior and interior model is a VII boat .

i think that a good way to the first Ix mod is change the external model an use the VII interior. but it requires advanced skills in 3d modelling, have the correct tool and deal with granny files.

here is

Is there a commercial software that can edit those files?

Yep. 12 grand last I checked for a single user license.
That means you can't give copies out to others.

Christ.

What was the file format that's being used to store the 3D data? I'm fairly sure there exists user-made software out there somewhere.

All 3D data is in the Granny GR2 files.
VERY few people can work with them and mostly on a very limited basis.
I only know of 2 people that can do limited things with that format.
TDW and myself.

I get a lot of requests from other Gamers playing other Games for help.
Most I believe get to a point that they just give up.

As an example. SWTOR used standard GR2 files when first released.
It was a simple matter to rip 3D models from the files. They changed from a standard GR2 to a Custom GR2.
Didn't take a few of us long to break that format also.

Fussing up the CRC was a standard trick to stop ripping files.
We changed that also! LOL!! We can fix the CRC.

I asked a couple of friends who knew people who pointed to some other people who, as it finds out, have tools.

Are here people who would actually port models from SH3 to SH5 if they had the tools for it?

Some may. But SH3 models are sub par compared to SH5 models.
Unless the better Modders with new Units OK the imports.
I'd like to see the Tools.
Use anything released by RAD Games that was not purchased and a whole World of hurt comes down.

Can't show what I don't have, but someone has import plugin for 3dsMax 7.
Providing DL links is risky because I don't know what they might contain.

That is probably the illegally released version from Game name I forgot long ago.
That WILL get you in trouble with RAD. I can promise you that!

If you go way back in threads? You will find out RAD contacted me and warned about stuff like this.
TDW had to change what he was doing as I did also.

I'll also keep my promise to RAD and to Neal that I made way back then.
If I see any illegal stuff? I'll rat it out.
Pirate stuff is not allowed here at SubSim.
