Default U-505 exhibit begins Playing with the Enemy book tour

The nation-wide Playing with the Enemy book tour kicks off at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago on September 14, right in front of U-505! http://msichicago.org/exhibit/U505/index.html After a news conference (where we will be making a very exciting announcement), author Gary Moore will be signing copies of his new book at the MSI gift shop.

(Quick fill in for those of you who haven’t read Neal’s review of Playing with the Enemy in the Books section—Playing with the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, a World at War, and a Field of Broken Dreams is the story of author Gary Moore’s father, Gene Moore, who was a 15-year-old baseball prodigy when WWII started. After playing on the Navy baseball team during WWII, Gene and his teammates were shipped back to the United States and given the task of guarding German POWs from the captured submarine U-505. While guarding them in Louisiana, Gene and his teammates taught the imprisoned U-505 crew how to play baseball.)

Check out the newly-re-designed Playing with the Enemy website here http://playingwiththeenemy.com/ A list of Gary’s appearances is posted on the Events page http://playingwiththeenemy.com/events.htm Please take a look to see if there is an event near you. We look forward to meeting you!

Hi Sarah,

Please post the details of the announcement here, too. I have a feeling it will be related to the big screen treatment. When I read PWTE, it occured to me this would a very Spielberg-esque movie...

Thanks
Neal

Sorry to take so long to reply. I was in Chicago last week for the start of the Playing with the Enemy tour. While there I visited the U-505 exhibit for the first time. Even though everyone kept telling me you are blown away by the size when you first see the sub, I still was! The sub was great, the exhibit is well done, and we even got a personal tour by Ted Savas (editor of "Hunt and Kill: U-505 and the U-boat War in the Atlantic" http://savasbeatie.com/U-505.html) Anyone else been to the Musuem of Science and Industry recently?

While at the U-505 we held a press conference announcing that Playing with the Enemy will be made into a major motion picture! The article was in Variety magazine and also picked up on numerous entertainment websites, such as this one http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=19499

We are very excited about this development. It was a great way to start the nation-wide tour. Author Gary Moore now heads to Philadelphia for a signing Thursday night Sept. 21. Please help us spread the word about these events, and tell anyone you know who would be interested. A full list of events is posted here http://playingwiththeenemy.com/events.htm

Any questions, please ask!

Sarah
