Default Hover craft destroyer/ fun convoy battle.

I finished up quite the fun first patrol in m 2nd flotilla campaign just 2 weeks into the war. While I am by no ways a great writer, I'll try to convey the story as it was quite fun. I have screen shots on my computer at home maybe i'll post them later, Im writing the post from my work computer, hope you all enjoy. I played with Op Mon/omegu and all the mods included, with the harder escorts L1, Im still a new sub skipper so I had map contacts on and auto torpedo (I still dont know how to do all the calculations.) and external camara cause I love looking around so I could take screenies.

9/2/1939 Wilhelmshaven:
I had just settled into my new office when orders came in. We had been ordered to the west coast of spain/portugal to patrol for shipping to and from the Mediterraneans sea. On the way to our objective through the english channel, we forgot BDu's warning that getting within 20 km of an enemy harbor could cause the entire world to fold in on itself and leave us trapped in the great beyond filled with icons and a start button.

We crept into Dover under the cover of darkness and sent all four fish from the front tubes into the cruisers sitting at dock. Set at 6-7 meters deep with magnetic pistons on, all 4 fish ripped open the keels of the Dido and Fiji light cruisers. The J class destroyer started firing star shells and must have caught a reflection off the scope because they started landing shells closer and closer, Upon trying to leave port we ran into the problem with reality, the boat lost all power and night turned black, we were plunged into pitch darkness multiple multiple times save for a bright message at the end of the tunnel saying "SH4 is not responding" neither the xo or I knew what that meant. After calming the men, the engineer managed to restore control of the boat and we made full steam away from Dover and that plaguing error message.

Mid day the next day continuing through the english channel and playing hide and seek with the RAF. The watch spots a merchant on the horizon. We plot a intercept course. Its dead calm and 1 well placed torp wreaks havoc on the lone merchant. Surfacing we send it below with a few pokes of the deck gun. Other than dodging planes the remainder of our cruise to the patrol zone is uneventful. The weather at our objective is poor and doesnt clear in the 48 hours we were requested to be on station. We recieve a message from BDu saying there is no further objectives from us and return to base or choose a new patrol zone.

With fresh torps in the reserves from our externals and still 4 torps in the external reserves we surely arnt putting in to base with soo much unexploded armaments. But we set sail back north to patrol the waters near the enemy's home land.

Still in the depths of the atlantic the watch spots a large convoy. Its mid day and clear, but the watch, and myself verify there is only one destroyer leading approximatly 25 merchants. I radio in the convoy and recieve orders to attack it.

ALLLLLLLLAAAAAARRRRRMMMMMMMA
Battle stations, We race ahead and set up an intercept point on the convoy. We were too eager to wait for the cover of darkness, As the convoy approached we re convirmed there was one lone c/d class destroyer out front. Oddly enough the enemy must have devloped unobtanium, steel that is less dense than water, as the entire destroyer was above the water. And even though the screws were above the water the destroyer was still making 11-12 knots. This hovering destroyer worried the crew but I re assured them it can sink like any other vessel. We let it pass and eventully we were in the middle of the covoy, quickly set up 2 targets in front and one in back and loosed all six fish. 5 out of 6 hits one dud, LADY LUCK IS WITH US TODAY! I check the scope and see the destroyer was so far out in front and there are now 7 or 8 merchants milling inbetween us and the destroyer, we surface and I order the deck gun to be readied while the torps arm. We pound away with the deck gun The convoy is in sheer panic as our mighty uboat surfaces in the middle of them. we planted at least 50 shells into differnt merchants before the tell tall sound of whizzing shells stream over head, the hover destroyer has maneuvered into position, But if this is the best aim the royal navy has the war is already won for the fatherland. By now 4 of 6 tubes are loaded and I order periscope depth. But as the destroy displays piss poor aim I let the boys on the gun take a few pot shots at it, and score a few hits below what would be the water line if any of the boat was below the water. Still in the middle of a target rich enviornment we quickly sight up 4 more shots and this time 4 hits. so far this attack 10 shots 1 dud. By this point some of our earlier victims have sunk. I maneuver the boat around again to put some merchants between us and the destroyer, We have about 110 shells left for the deck gun and are loading the last of our internal torps in to the tubes. we still have 5 torps in externals. As the deck gun crew takes up firing again I orgainze crew to get those external torps into the reserves. I knew this was risky in a battle but the boys were eager for more tonnage. We continue our attack, and this time as the destroyer comes back into view, but continues to display piss poor shooting I tell the boys to let 'em have it. 3 more shells into the hover/destroyer and we must of hit a magazine because it gets ripped with secondary explosions and the rate of return fire diminishes. The destroyer actually turns tail to run. Now its like shooting fish in a barrel, the boys on the gun finish off the destroyer with our last 10 shells. and we continued to dog the broken remants of the convoy on the surface and make raids as the torps are loaded.

Once every bit of ammo is extinguished, (I even fired the flak gun into a merchant that attempted to ram us, though with no effect) we headed home.

60000 Tons sunk I was proud of the boys!

Hope you enjoyed, I know Im not as good of a writer as some of the others who post patrol stories, but this patrol was too much fun not to share. Like I said I'll try to see if any of my screenies came out and post when I get home.
