Note to self: If you hit a target with a torpedo at close range, turn away instead of continuing toward him with your mind in neutral. If a fire sets off a secondary explosion you don't want to be too close. Also (same patrol!) if you're doing a night surface attack and pass a large tanker (that might be full of avgas) within 300 yards, it's an incredibly bad idea to open up with the deck gun at that range. Sometimes I do more damage to me than the enemy does.

Default First Patrol

So i chose the Tambor class sub USS Trout for my first career patrol, after sinking 5 merchant ships, and down to only 4 torpedoes, came across a huge taskforce of 3 Ise-Class Battleships, 4 Cruisers and 4-5 Destroyers, fired a salvo of 4 torpedoes (2 contact, 2 magnetic charge). Contacts were duds, but the two magnetic charge torpedoes were enough to sink this beast. Sank in seconds after listing to port and rolled over like a barrel.

Then i dived to 80 meters and got out of there as discreetly as possible.

Default USS Barb - Trains and Rockets

Here is the story of the USS Barb performing the only ground based attack on Japan home islands of all of WWII.
Know as the only time a US Submarine sank a Freight Train.

Neat story.

Also describes their addition of the only rocket launcher on a US sub in WWII.

hi guys im new here, i just want to share my story playing sh4 with fotrs and sorry for my bad english

still on patrol 2, got 2 torpedoes left but still haven't complete the patrol yet and i suddenly got intel on task force so i intercept them and made it at the right time.. i saw 2 juicy target, escort carrier and battleship fuso and i choose fuso, i launched my 2 fish.. one detonated but another one was a dud and i ran away deeply under the ocean leaving the injured fuso, and after 1 hour i surfaced to recharged but suddenly one japanese plane came to me so i quickly ordered periscope depth but couldn't make it and the japanese plane scored a direct hit to my sub and i was singking.. i waited to get to 60 depth and then i ordered blow ballast, thank god my crew was okay.. hull integrity got damaged 40% the engine room got flooded and my top speed was 3 knots on surface, but i still havent complete the patrol yet and i want to finish the patrol ASAP to keep my rank stable and i dont want my superior to scoff me for abandoning the mission

here's aftermath of my sub after got direct bombed

Note to self: don't try to leave your pc with high time compression at enemy territory even just for a few minutes

i wonder why my sub still can float with that many holes
btw narwhal-class is the best

good day to you fellow skippers

There is no one on the bridge!!! Fire the pilot!

Actually Mork_417, where are you, and what is the date? We'll look and see about slowing down the tug...

I was in Career mode at the Cavite N.B., Manila base, on Dec 9th 1941. It was morning, 07:35 in picture i posted. After seeing your inquiry this evening i attempted to replicate the incident. I was able to only replicate it once out of eleven runs, but the time was different; afternoon at 13:05.

The tug and sub start moving at 13:01, and the sub will usually come to stop at the point of collision to allow the tug to go by.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. That miscreant tug jockey used to drive to the South dock, and then just site there, and has since been busted-down to Seaman grade, and is not allowed at the controls of any boat any longer. The only thing they'll let him operate now is the tow line gun, and even then, he is under close, adult supervision... Definitely changed for next release.
