The best practice in concealed carry is to carry the firearm in a holster which is kept concealed on your person

the holster should be comfortable and have a trigger cover

end of story

you conceal carry off person you run too many risks of someone either taking the firearm from you, or another person - such as in this case - discovering the firearm and accidentally discharging it into your chest

sad, but it happens.

purse carry is the worst... when thugs target a woman they are usually going for their purse anyhow, so now you are in a tug of war with another person over the object which contains your only means of self defense.

Carry, always, but carry safely.

The story is unfortunate, but i know too many people who have saved their own lives and the lives of others by carrying a concealed hand gun for this story to even have relevance beyond being a simple accident.

It already is.

There are legal carry techniques and illegal carry techniques, it is the responsibility of the permit holder to be familiar with the regulations governing their carriage of the firearm and adhere to them and train regularly to those standards.

thing your statement overlooks... is that you could pass 1,000,000,000,000,000 laws - and it wont change the fact that accidents and bad things happen

government cannot mandate us into lives free of harm or foul

Ok...trigger cover is the solution...really?
I hope you don't really practice this safety feature as a responsible owner.
Loaded gun in anyplace besides war zone is lack of imagination....to say it mildly.
What is the matter with you people....

Don't we have a one size fits all gun thread that long ago fell past page 100? Bored today, huh?

So carry un chambered gun with no safety.
With little training from right people you can load it and have bullet on its way in about a second.

The gun shouldn't have had a round in the chamber with the safety off.

Captain Hindsight is all over this one.

More often than not, any potential aggressor need only be shown that you have a dog leg. Then they are more reluctant to assault you for fear of barks here and bites you over there... between the eyes.

So let me understand this through your eyes

If the aggressive nation of Attackemstan mobilizes 20,000 troops and invades the neighboring country of Victimsvania and starts blowing stuff up and killing folks...

It is perfectly ok for Victimsvania to mobilize 20,000 troops to stop them in an all out war

***BUT***

if the aggressive punk with a ski mask attempts to rob and murder the Wilson family, Mr wilson is not allowed to respond with 1/40,000th the carnage that took place in aforementioned victimsvania???

you support guns in an all out war with potentially millions of people killed wounded or otherwise affected

but you dont support my right to own a firearm that has never been shot in anger and probably in all likelihood never will be???

Keeping it in your pants does not keep you safe.
you quoted me saying "My wife and step kids are worth protecting..."

In asking whats protecting them for a toddler you made it about me... not the ladies purse.

she chose how to carry, and it got her killed. Unfortunate. Accidents happen.

What disturbs me is how this is jumped on like a live grenade and made into a gun rights / anti conceal carry thing... NOT about how this child is now going to be affected for the rest of his life because of this accident that he didnt know any better.

the mother should have known better.

Carrying a firearm isnt what killed her

Carrying a firearm without regards to her surroundings is what killed her.

she facilitated her own demise - it has nothing to do with the millions of people who carry concealed every day and dont experience any sort of shooting or discharge or self defense scenario at all

I have no problem with your rights....I don't really care.
We just chatting here.
Yet the system of acquiring firearms in the USA is sort of questionable in particular when responsible owner has no issue with carrying chambered gun is shopping mall ... in a holster with trigger guard.
In my humble opinion anyone caught on like that should be denied his permit that's all.
Again...just my opinion.
