Default Schnorchell : how ?

Tried a type VIIC/40 to see how it's like.
Boat has a schorchell but :

- no button to get to schnorchell depth nor key
- no key listed in F1 keys
- no button to raise it

So, how does it work in SH4 ?

I tried : SH4 + UBM + Monsun

Schnorkel depth is periscope depth.
To raise it there is a button listed in the commands interface, and you can find it in 2 places but I can't remember exactly, check the 2nd commands tab (i believe that's the command room) and also the 3rd or 4th (which might be the one controling the engines, silent running, etc.) If your u-boat has a schnorkel it will say Raising/Lowering Radar/Schnorkel, but the icon button itself used to be for raising radar I think.

Tried shift-x. Didnt work.

Was just a test. SH4 is crap when it comes to Uboats compared to SH3.

From the the "README" that you're to "lazy" to read in the first post of the OM thread.

7.There are certain files I don't change because of mod compatibility. One of those files is command.cfg which controls the snorkel. You can make the following changes in the command.cfg to toggle the snorkel

[Cmd158]
Name=Toggle_snorkel
Ctxt=1
Key0=0x58,s,"SHIFT X"

special Note: This step is not required if you load OMEGU or OM Plot V300
And I thank you from the bottom of my heart that you think my work is "crap"

To me SH3 + GWX reminds me of the movie Das Boot, whereas SH4 + OM + OMEGU remind me of the actual book by Lothar-Günther Buchheim. Or like Run Silent, Run Deep the movie vs Edward L. Beach's book.

I find OM to be much more baseline and realistic. It might not have all the fancy frills, but you really don't need those anyway, unless of course you find stock SH5 perfectly acceptable. Try a Sonalyst game (Dangerous Waters especially) and you'll understand what I mean.

As for the schnorchel, there is indeed an interface button for it. Two infact. Command room and the periscope bar. Very last icon. The one that looks like a schnorchel (amazing, huh?)

And as Lurker mentioned, you can simply uncomment that line to enable the keyboard command.

I haven't looked to see if the new command.cfgs added in OMEGU v300 already have it enabled or not. It's a pretty simple process to do yourself.

I just tested snorkeling today and it works absolutely perfect.

You can raise the snorkel with a toolbar command. Yes the toolbar is confusing, but I found it eventually, and so will you

I believe Snorkel depth isn't important. You can raise the snorkel on the surface and dive to periscope depth.

I believe the button for snorkel depth is the one right to the P. No idea what this is on English keyboard. I use the SH3 Keyboard layout from OMEGU and a german keyboard.

If i recall correctly, the snorkel is/was purely eyecandy in nature, meaning no air would be refreshed and the diesel engines would not work while snorkeling.

Is there an update to this? does it finally work?

It does work the only thing wich doesn't work is the co2 levels will continu to rise. So you need to surface like once every day. for less tan 5 mins.

.. which is maybe not as unrealistic as it sounds. Snorkeling nearly suffocated the crews and destroyed the eardrums, as Buchheim vividly describes in "Die Festung". Admittedly, this boat even had many additional passengers, so it must have been particularly bad.

AA... Humm... I read about forced AA, I got ATI card and with CCC I forced AA, so I think now is okay
If not, I`m waiting for your suggestions
But... Have a look on these small points on the water below water line...

By the way. Your skins are very good and I like it. And I asked on other thread about a rusty and green covered U-boat. I saw this in some mod/add for GWX. I don`t remember name and author of that, maybe Rusty Camo
A yeah... My native res is 1280x1024. I know, poor, but... Money :P
Thanks

No, I think in the second screen it's fine. The white dots are something else (software related), you needn't worry about that.

Can you be a bit more specific? Which type of boat? There are some rusty green skins for the type IX, but they are already installed by OM.

Ah, and the skins are not mine, but fubars I only bundled them for easy usage. He is the great artist.
