HOUSTON — State officials continued the largest rescue operation in Texas history on Monday, taking thousands of people by boat and helicopter out of flood-ravaged towns on the coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. At the same time, millions of others coped without electricity and faced shortages of food, water and gasoline.

So far, the colossal storm has been blamed for at least 30 deaths in eight states across the United States, including seven in Texas, six in Louisiana and one in Arkansas, The Associated Press reported. Many of the deaths occurred in states far from the Gulf Coast, as Ike, now a tropical depression, cut a path through the Midwest, knocking down trees, flooding streets, and destroying homes.

Anybody heard anything on the USS Texas? she's located in La Porte.

Funny I thought it was Deer Park instead of La Porte ... I use to live on the edge of La Porte and drive by it on the way to Houston to see my mom.

But your right it's La Porte, which always floods due to the Bay Town tunnel they built many years ago, so ships can travel overhead.
