Default Silent Hunter 2 on Linux?

Yes it is possible, atleast partially

I was able to get Silent Hunter 2 run on Wine on my Xubuntu driven Eee Box. I need to manually copy paste my mission to CamScen.sdf for Sim.exe and start Sim.exe trough console, but the game itself works very smoothly on 640x480 resolution with default graphics settings (bumpmapping etc).

The reason for this ackwardness being that the Shell.exe (main menu) won't start Sim.exe or for example go to multiplayer set up, it just goes to Screen Blanker (or for me to console). This also means that saved games won't work, but because of the saving bugs it doesn't really matter much for me. I rather just start a new randomized mission or change the starting location for my u-boat on CamScen.sdf to continue longer missions.

Has anybody else had any experience running SH2 or DC on linux? I would love to get multiplayer to work

Default Sient Hunter II on Linux

I have a small Asus eeePC 900A with Atom processor that I am currently running Leenux Linux on. It is based on Ubuntu 10.04. I just upgraded to the newest version of WINE 1.3.24 and the graphics are more stable then the older version 1.2 but I get the same problem. The blank screen comes up. The work around is the same and playability is good. I think this is a directX issue. I have read about what should be installed used as a configuration for WINE to work with DirectX but I still have issues with it. I can't get dxdiag.exe ( DirectX diagnostics) to run. The install of directX seems O.K. but still no dxdiag.exe running. I have run SH2 with emulated virtual desktop at 640 x 480 and noticed the box size changes during running SH2 from SH2.exe and I think that the quick time and program drivers are not working well together. I updated quicktime and nothing changed. I thought I would try to run some wine log to see what dll's are being called up. Does any one have ideas what else to test? I think it is not switching from the quicktime to program run of the sim.exe correctly or just dropping the sim.exe start.
