Default No more Windows 7 support

Just a reminder, as of this Tuesday, January 14th 2020 , Microsoft has cancelled support of any kind for Windows 7. No more service and security patches.

Estimated over one third of globally existing systems still run W7.

Microsoft killed support for XP in 2014, and W8 in 2016.

Honestly I feel like much more than just a good OS is being buried. The whole once existing freedom of the internet and the whole magic and fascination of the past 20-30 years and the creativity of users ion wokring with the unfolding computer technology and working around the many flaws and big sin it, seems to have been buried in recent years. They got intentionally slain. Last but not least by Western and namely the US govenrment. Once SciFi, quite some of its dysutopias are not just set to turn real in the imminent future, but already have.

Sometimes I feel as if I already have grown too old.

I will stick to Windows 7 for now, but Windows 10 has had problems too

NSA alerts Microsoft of major security flaw in Windows 10

Quote:
The National Security Agency has discovered a major security flaw in Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system that could let hackers intercept seemingly secure communications.

But rather than exploit the flaw for its own intelligence needs, the NSA tipped off Microsoft so that it can fix the system for everyone.

I abstain from updating W10 expect in 6 month intervals only - and then with maximum delays possible for all built verison updates. Thats why I always lag 1-12 months behind. Have updated last in late September, and got pushed to built 1803, and do not plan to do it again before end of March, maybe late February to avoid getting pushed to 1809 and so winning another 6 months. These later builts are said to make it more difficult to reliably prevent early pushing to newer builts, and blocking Windows updates, so the longer I can avoid it, the better for me. Gone are the days when you said "always stay updated and update as early as you can". That are just echoes from a past now dead. Those providing these patches for Windows today - are your worst enemies. Due to company incompetence, and government polices.

Hell, even security suites have become risks in themselves.

It has all turned nuts.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but ...

I have Windows 10 on my laptop, but I use a free program called Classic Shell and a few other tricks to make it look and work just like Windows 7. If you didn't know, you'd swear I was running 7. Installation and setup is very easy - you don't have to be a computer wiz to get everything just the way you want. When I bought the laptop, I also bought a copy of Windows 7 Pro - intending to install it instead of 10. But after seeing how well Classic Shell works, I decided there was no point.

Classic Shell itself is no longer being supported, but I can confirm the last available build works with the current version of Windows 10. Also, the developer of Classic Shell released the source code and others have forked development into a similar new product called Open Shell.

If you dislike the new "apps" button and other annoying changes Windows 8 and 10 brought as much as I do - and you just want your good old start menu back - I'd highly recommend Classic Shell. I haven't tried Open Shell ... yet. But if/when Classic Shell stops working with Windows 10, I'm sure I will switch.

If anyone here does try Open Shell, please PM me and let me know what you think of it. If it's as good as Classic, maybe I'll go ahead and switch.

Anyway, this is my desktop right now:

Using ClassicShell myself, I still just want to remind that this is purely about cosmetics. It does not cure any of the security, privacy and quality issues of W10.

Using W10 since 27 months now, and still dispising it. With passion. And the mess with their update policy and quality just does not get better. I still delay everything in updates as long as they allow me on "my" computer. With business machines, these issues are much, much worse and threatening.

I just built up another Win 7 PC last Saturday using a Perfectron fanless system I got from work that had an HDD failure. It's perfect for the workshop since it won't suck up dust and my network connecting will be kept to a minimum and disconnected most of the time.

It took forever to update from the Win 7 SP1 install disc to the current level of support.

Support Windows 7 64-Bit Home Edition

Good Afternoon Captains & Gentlemen

I have been "looking" at my SH-4 WOTP box for a couple of days and earlier this week I installed it on my laptop with Win 7 HE.
At first I was not happy with the size of the laptop screen and thus decided to install it on my desktop.
My DT is also win 7 HE 64-Bit, and after app 7 times I get this error message that I am not able to install SH4 onto my desktop.

I am aware that Win 7 is not supported anymore, so why would the LT with the same OS install it, but the DT will not do so?

Really hope that someone would be able to give some advice please?

Regards

I would have a look in
Settings
Update & Security
Windows Security

I've been having problems with Virus & Threat Protection, this last week win10 decided that a program I've been using for 15 years is a Trojan, it took half a day to find that out, in the words of Queen Victoria "we are not amused".

Good Evening

Thanks for all the help/suggestions!
I sat the whole today and it is now 22H49 and eventually got it installed.

In the end I disconnected my ISP and AV.
Then in the setup I also disabled the installation of Direct X 9.0 and Adobe 6.0

I am now able and need to attend some sub school to get airborne, sorry I mean my sea legs back again!

Now the big question what would be the best mod to add just to run the very basic but not just in vanilla mode?

Have a great evening!

Regards

How many people have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10? My Windows 10 was upgraded from Windows 7 in March 2020. At that time, I had missed the free method provided by Microsoft, but luckily, my Windows 10 worked It's great.

Why should anyone with a clear mind voluntarily give up Win 7 for 10?!
Or use Windows at all?

Bye, Troll.
