Default Active Sonar Identification

What I noticed is that the AI is shooting immediately at contacts gained though active sonar. I understand this is probably the most common ROE for ASW forces, to consider all submerged contacts hostile. This requires that submarines operate away from friendly forces in order to prevent friendly fire.

In Cold Waters, submarines are often operating in packs or in close proximity of surface groups. I wonder how realistic this is, considering that it is very difficult to continuously keep track of friendly submarines. Therefore this would require any active sonar contact to be identified though passive sonar first before it can be engaged.

My guess is they just keep a constant track of each other so that any new contact is considered hostile.

They do tend to keep track of one another uncannily well.
