Sailaway is good.

I've only played about 3 minutes of A Painted Ocean, but it looks promising. Seems a little crude at the moment, but I think it's still in development.

I played Vehicle Simulator a very long time ago. IIRC, it was alright.

Not sailing, but Bridge Command is a neat simulator for practicing RADAR skills.

Cheers!

Stefano Casillo, the founder and ex-lead developer of Kunos Simulazioni, which is known for its excellent Assetto Corsa franchise, since last year has left Kunos and does his own thing, which is a sailing simulator. If he brings in the same quality and physics pendantry that he put into Assetto Corsa, it will be excellent.

He runs one or two other communication channels at Discord and stuff like that, but I do not know these. He also had a thread in the regular AC forums.

Its still work in progress and not released, AFAIK.

ESail on steam is another excellent sailing sim, probably the best virtual sailing school style app and its still actively getting new features and updates.

Sail Simulator 5 is very good. The physic of sail and water are the closest to RL sailing IMO. Pure simulation, no game, but does satisfies the itch in the winter months. Try the free demo. I purchased the Deluxe version directly from Stentec several years ago.

I can sail this sim for hours without getting bored.graphics are great and if your're a noob to sailing(like myself) you can let the AI help in Beating, Running, Reaching, Tacking and Gybing the sails, all or some, for you.
and something I like;you can edit the skins in this sim to your liking(outside of the programm, that is).

I fulfill my need to fly canvas with Sailaway Pro and Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail. Works for me.

Is there perhaps a megayacht simulator out there in simulation univers.

Where you are the captain on this megayacht.

there is an option to sail boats in MSFS 2020,only limited controls but still fun.for me although it was too limited so I turned to sail simulator instead.

There's a new one out on Steam called, "Hydrofoil Generation". It was just released a couple of days ago.

I haven't tried it yet, but the initial reviews are very positive. It's oriented toward racing speedy little high tech boats. Looks like fun. I'll probably grab it.

“A Painted Ocean” by Neil Thapen is a free prototype of a Napoleonic-era 34 gun frigate. I’ll never actually get to sail a square rig ship but I enjoy playing around with this convincing little demo.
