Cool!

Make sure to have CAP. Floggers will sink your carrier if you're not watching.

Historically they had Knox and Sherman class escorts, but their air defenses are just ESSM and guns. If Libya really tried they could have bombed the carriers. I did not give them backfires.

I will make the kennedy scenario if theres a request but its just going to be two floggers, its a reduced from of these other scenarios.

I don't care if there is replies, I will keep posting scenarios I make. I am thinking of a submarine scenario but the submarines in FC are detected easily. Maybe I could make some sort of submarine reconassaince scenario for historic parts of the cold war.

There was a series of military techno thrillers written around the time of the game's development that I think would make interesting scenarios.

Sidra 86.

The remaining scenario is trivial, its just kennedy versus two migs.

Have it loaded but haven't tried it yet. Still having fun trying you first scenario

I remember those novels- will try them.

The later novels have invisible ninjas and mini subs but there are aspects of the earlier novels that would work.

I have a plan to add all the airports, warehouses, train stations, hospitals, telecom buildings, cranes, factories and power plants, will take a few years.

Awesome. I will do that as well. As Libya already has minimal infrastructure I can use the scenarios I already made.

I've been doing some benchmarking. I find that fleet command will handle two carrier groups before crashing. It can handle more if all the planes die at the start.

Even the scenario in the typhoon novel would be a cpu hog. I have no problem, just saying. 50 flankers vs 2 tomcats is fine, if both sides used their entire force it would take some cpu.

I have Command Modern Operations as well, I've only scratched the surface.

I'm just taking Fleet Command for what it is, a twenty year old program, fun to do some small scenarios.

Perhaps you could break down Operation Odyssey into several different scenarios?

It's not a problem at all, odyssey dawn was only a hundred or so aircraft. If the enemy is mostly passive and defending the cpu will handle a lot more which is why the gulf war scenario worked.

CMO has a significantly lower unit limit, no gulf war scenario for example.

It's not actually possible to fit goia del colle and Libya on the same map in fleet command but it's good enough.

Just out of curiosity, have you manually manipulated the mission files? I noticed some is in text, is the map choice and size in code or text?

at the top of you first scenario there is a line

LATLONG 30.461088 17.725067
;

At the end of the file it says a line like bitmap and what looks like code

* Interesting reading that Libya had lost support of Mirages because of its war with Chad

I didn't edit the text. That information is in every mission file.

Latlong tells the coordinates of the map, the color of the bitmap array tells the game what the terrain is, and the rest of the mission file is the list of unit information.

I could build a program to mass text edit multiple missions, add GIS information and all the civilian objects. However that would kill your CPU anyway as it would be thousands of objects. As fleet command fully simulated every object (treats a tent as a fighter jet with sighting, threat value, orders etc) it will use a lot of cpu even rendering static objects. This is the only shortcoming of the engine, otherwise it could render millions of objects.

However for now I'm just manually adding everything in the mission editor.
