Default Direct X

My computer lags on Low settings for games I should be able to play on Medium. I've checked my Direct X version and it's 11. If I downgrade to 9.0c Will I get better performance in games?

To be honest, it could be dozens of things.....
post your specs.....
games can lag due to all sorts of circumstances:
  1. P.S.U.
  2. GPU
  3. RAM
  4. Drivers/Software conflicting, either with each other or game
  5. Hardware overheating-cooling insufficient is one
  6. Drivers not up-to-date
  7. Game not patched up-to-date
  8. Your system meets min. requirements at very least
  9. Bottlenecks-caused amongst other things by High-end cpu but low-end GPU, or low RAM and high resolution settings on your monitor, ie bad configuration of your hardware

and so on....

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHZ
Memory: 4GB of DDR3 Ram
GPU:ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 1024MB dedicated memory
Page File: 2114MB, 8041MB available.
OS: Windows 7 Professional x64

My drivers, and the games are both up to date. And my computer does match the minimum requirements for all games. The games themselves recommend Medium to High settings.

What's your PSU? (A min 450W is needed with your card).
What sort of resolutions are you running on your monitor?
Check your temps...
The game(s) you are having issues with:
have you only just recently gotten them (issues)? Ie had them running ok before.
With the same games, or all games, ie system slow down overall?
What games are you having trouble with?

As it is a Gaming Laptop I'm unsure of the PSU. But When I'm gaming I always have it plugged in.

The games I have problems with are Crysis, which has lag throughout and the sound comes in Choppy, sideshows when I approach a radar station fairly early in the game. Even on low. ARMAII, runs smooth until I'm in a major city, or there are alot of Units nearby. Can Run In Medium/Low.
Tropico 3 sometimes runs fine on Medium/High, but other times I have to run it on low. It seems to be random though. I haven't tried it recently but Company of Heroes Opposing fronts also gave me problems.

FSX can be run on Medium with a lot of traffic, but I haven't tried running it in a while.

I can run Left 4 Dead 2,DCS Black Shark, and ANNO 1403 Dawn of Discovery on Medium, and can run SH4 on High.

As for resolution my screen is wide, so I run 1366x768.

Edit: I was also able to run Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Double Agent on Medium to High.

Ah yesss...
Crysis.
Crysis will do that to systems....
Check any background apps/programs running and switch off if not needed, check task mger for that too....
you can switch off your anti-virus whilst playing, anything to give you some extra "juice" is what i'm indicating here...
maybe crank down your screen resolution a notch or two, you can pick up anywhere btw 2 to 10 fps....

check out the forums for Crysis, might be an answer there for you:

So down grading to Direct 9 won't help?

I heard it gives FPS boosts.

you could try, people have reported fps increases doing this....it really all depends what resources a game "hogs" the most, wether it be cpu/memory or gpu for instance. I seriously suggest you look at the link i posted earlier and check out the "Tweak Guide" on the first page, especially about AA and shader settings (in-game).
Those two "babies" right there can kill a game for you.....
hope this helps

Okay Thanks. I'll see if anything in there helps.

I just realized something else that might help. I was looking through my Power Plan, and realized it was in Power saver. I switched it to High Performance, so hopefully it'll make a difference.

Well, after double checking my Drivers(there was a new ATI driver this month), ending 90% of my running processes(all of which were not important for the computer to run), and switching the power plan into high performance, I can now run Crysis on Medium, and it recommends High.
