Many years ago I sat with a beer in the long grass at the edge of a wood planted by a sadly departed friend, Nick McKumiskey - chewing the fat and enjoying his pleasure at my suggestion that he build an Iron Age roundhouse on the island in the middle of the lake he'd also created; my idea was that we should dress up as ancient Britons now and then and get drunk in this prehistoric man cave, before a crackling log fire, and push the modern world far away for a few hours
