Default ? Can you mod darkwaters for What if?

I'm wondering if someone can mod Darkwaters for a What if situation. What I would like is the Type XVIII to be available in at least one Atlantic port towards the beginning of the war or the middle of the war.

I was in a Type XXI I believe toward the end of the war in my campaign and "promoted" with a POS Type XXIII! Is the XVIII available in any of the ports like the vanilla game in the Pacific?

firstly, we have a forum-thread for all things Dark Waters.
https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=243322

secondly, prior to firstly, the availability of any advanced sub/uboat is dependent upon the equipment that will operate it. Balao, Tench, Type 18, whatever, are all available later in the war because of the equipment availability. IF (notice the Big IF), one were to go through the equipment file and the UPC file and whatever-other-file is necessary and change all of the availability dates to 1942, then, yes, DW can be modded for an advanced boat.

earlier this year, a forum-poster asked a similar question. he wanted to drive a variant of the Type 9 boat, i forget which one. i figured: no problem. take the existing Type 9 boat make a couple of changes and, voila. but no. i worked on this project for two weeks and all i got was CTD's. i re-tell this story to show you that i am not being a negative-Nancy here.

so, in the end, it is possible to make that advanced boat available while Germany occupies France and has Atlantic ports available, but it may not be an easy task. permit me a bit of sardonic humor: if the Germans, with all of their technical know-how, couldn't build one while they had Atlantic ports, why do you think someone on this forum could do it?

if you really want to drive an advanced Uboat from France to the US East Coast, i say: give it a shot. just keep the bottle of paracetamol handy.

Okay, but how about taking the sub in vanilla during whatever period of time it was at Suyubaya or whatever port it was available and making it available in the same time frame at an Atlantic port in Darkwaters, Would that be easier?

try it.

More to think about...OpMonsun is based on stock, and the 18-boat was in stock, ask Lurker why he took the 18-boat out of OpMonsun?

and...Dark Waters is an offshoot/evolution of OpMonsun. ask Fifi why he left out the 18-boat with DW?

and...now...1Patriotofmany wants to not only resurrect the 18-boat but make it operational in 1942.

i do not have the answers but something made the 18-boat an uboat-non-grata.

Well I can't I have no idea how to mod, I know you old salts do. So FiFi is the guy to ask? It may well be in there, but I've never come across it, I know the ridiculous XXIII is, I got "promoted" to one. LOL

i understand how you feel.

this is why i play and try not to mod. when one mods, one thinks they have the thing working as they want, then one publishes and 10 seconds later, a guy who downloaded your mod visits the land of CTD.
