Personally, I still use WMP and love it. I did just google "vlc media player mpr" and got dozens of sites explaining how to fix it.

Ditto, I just toss stuff at it and it plays. I have no idea how!

Get FFMPEG if you need even more capability. Make sure you get the windows version, because just like VLC itself, FFMPEG comes from Linux where the good software lives. FFMPEG is a bag of codecs for every format in the known universe and maybe a few alien ones too.

I personally use the Media Player Classic; it comes as part of the K-Lite Codec Packs, Standard, Full, and Mega options. I have used this in place of the WMP for years and have had no problems in playing any of the media I have used so far. I use the Mega option, if only to be prepared for any new or old formats or codecs I may need to use. The player and the codecs are free and can be found at:

http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Perhaps this may solve some of your media issues...

Yet another reason to avoid Windows 10 like it was cancer. It isn't free folks! Friends don't let friends use Windows 10!

Did your computer come with Windows 7? If so, a complete reformat would likely restore it to its original configuration. I had to do a reformat because of some corruptions, and now it's back to 8.1.

Hallo Steve, I have used Win 7 pro when I updated to Win 10
I know there was an option to return to Win 7 but only in the first Month.

Win 7 pro was pre installatien and I have no Disc.

I use VLC with Windows 10 and have no more problems than I do running it on Windows 7. It's a bit of a geeky program but I like it because it allows you to take screen shots of Blu-ray discs and capture streaming video.

I guess I didn't express myself well. My computer came with Windows 8.1 installed. I took the offer to upgrade to Windows 10. I also only had the one month option to go back to 8.1, and I didn't take it. Then I started to have some minor but annoying problems. In the end the only choice I had was a complete reformat. If by "pre-installation" you mean the computer came with Windows 7, then what I said holds true. A reformat will return the computer to exactly the way it was when you got it, including the original OS. I also have no disc, but I'm back where I started, with 8.1.
