Default Question about visibility

As I have been playing SH4, with my selected mods RFB, RSRDC, ISP, etc., I've run into difficulties. I'm not sure if this is a serious problem, or just my bad luck.

In most of my contacts, the weather has been what the game calls 'good visibility'. I can spot the ships, start an approach, but while the outline of the ships is easily seen, I cannot 'lock on', or use the stadimeter. Furthermore, I can't ID the ship, as the colors on the flags cannot be discerned.

Does anyone know what parameters the game uses to fix the range at which targets can be clearly seen and 'locked on'?

For "locked on" what you see is not important, probably is needed to be seen by visual sensors in sensors.dat

IIRC you can't lock on something your crew does not see. If you did not get the "ship spotted" report, your crew most likely doesn't see them. Radar contact will not suffice, it must be visual for locking.

Out of my memory, so take it with a grain of salt

Default Check these out...

Hello TorpX,

Although this comes from the documentation for h.sie's hardcode fixes for SH3, it might point you in the right direction for experimenting with SH4.

In h.sie's instructions for adjusting night vision problems, he suggests modifying these values in the "data/cfg/Sensors.cfg" file: 'Visual range factor', 'Visual fog factor' and 'Visual light factor'.

Hope it helps; best of luck in finding the 'key' to solve your problem.

Yes, I believe this is the case.
