Oh, I see. I guess I got confused by the name of the thread and by phrases like "everything that would be helpfull to the new player" and thought the thread is about what is happening in SH3 not what is happening on the Subsim workshop forum.

Well this thread is here to help those new to our SH3 community. However i am by no meens trying to snub any other people's work from this or other communities. I will refer you to my 3rd post
Quote:
If i missed any major links feel free to let me know and ill add them
If you feel i failed to mention a current popular supermod. Just say which and i will add it provided it meets my criteria. Which is only that it be current (Ie work hasnt stoped on it many months ago, and its features havent been rolled into another mod or surpassed), popular (this one is a tough one to gauge, i mainly use player feedback as a method of determining use), easy for a new player to install, and easily available for download.

Also I will alter my original post to clarify some things.

The purpose of this thread is to try to help new players get situated and learn the game, the mods section i included was because i saw alot of questions about mods so i went with the ones i know are used by most in this particular community. I did not from the start intend this post to be a anywhere complete list of the mods out there, just to give the newbies something to start with and go from there. I also intend to keep this thread as neutral and unbiased as possible with reguards the mods out there. So if you feel i am unfairly representing (or not representing) a super pack, feel free to contact me and i will try to resolve the issue. I am also intentionaly limiting the mod listing to super packs and associated external apps, otherwise it would get far to complicated for those starting out.

If I had the opportunity to just install one mod for SH3 what would the group say is the best choice? I like to go with the best first from the experts...

Welcome aboard!

"The group" won't have a single opinion on the matter, too many choices available and preferences are all individual and subjective.

If you are looking for a supermod, you can choose from GWX, WAC, NYGM, and... LSH, I think. There should be a stickied thread for each in the Mods Workshop Forum, which would be the best place to find out what each one has to offer and ask for info.

Although it's not a mod, but a standalone program, probably the one thing most everyone here would recommend is SH3 Commander. Stickied thread for that also in the Mods Workshop.

With modding, it really is a matter of individual preference and what things YOU would like to see added to the game or removed from the game or enhanced in some way. If you have a particular preference or "wish-list" then make it known, that way you'll get recommendations of mods that will better suit your needs and desired style of play.

Welcome Butch!

As FK said, mods are highly subjective and there's not likely to be a single monolithic opinion on what's best. It all comes down to personal taste, so by all means try out a few of the more popular ones (stickied in the mods forum) and see what you think.

Although the game is 9 years old,i started playing it the last year.Also i haven't still read the whole manual of GWX.Despite the game's age,it is very attractive.

Default U-boat name

Hi to all. I have a question. Which file give the information about u-boat names in career. I thought - Flotilla.cfg from CFG folder.
But in this file for example to 1st flotilla boats (1939) i have 3 strings:
Name000=U-1
Name001=U-2
Name002=U-3
When i start career in 1st flotilla in 1939 - i can take U-5 or U-6.
