On another note: testing of a new warship is underway:

Still needs adding damage zones, fixing FX, camouflage and campaign integration, but it's getting there.

I imagine these calculation procedures are tedious for most players. Of course, the skipper should not bother himself with this. But in my opinion, besides the fact that you have the opportunity to participate in authentic WW2 procedures, it makes you feel two more things: the first is how time drags on on patrol and it has nothing to do with relaxing in the cabin of a cruise ship ; and second, submarine warfare is not at all romantic and not cinematic and requires high, including intellectual, tension. I think all of this contributes to raising the "ABV level" of the simulation.

Taking this opportunity .. I understand very well how long it can take high-quality and professional work to improve the game and I want to note that I like how the game is changing thanks to modders like you.

Default Luftwaffe attack

My first ever time of reporting a convoy and luftwaffe actually sending out planes lol

Stuka ablaze

But our hero pilot still did his duty for the fatherland

And got blasted out of the sky seconds later

Ok this turned out to be a damn action movie

Revenge

Giving that sweet coup de grace after they shot down 3 of our aircraft

This was straight up fun leading an ambush against 2 damn ships
3 planes and a submarine, just imagine that lol

Silently following a convoy

What a view

Steaming on a cinnamon

What it would look like if we could get the cam on ships

Okay what?

Apparently one of my missing torps caught a wave trough and a random very very VERY unlucky lifeboat was right there
Like 10 kilometers away while i was already swimming far away deep
Probably a one in a trillion shot
I just can't work it out how i had the chance
Probably would have been better playing the lottery lol

Cold foggy unkind sunrise

When you know there's somethin' coming and you prepare armed to the teeth and finally the silhouette emerges from the fog
FEUER FREI, LOS

Now that's a lot of damage

Sailin off into the sunset

As we would say in my language: Praise the day as the sun sets (which is an equivalent to 'don't count your chickens before they're hatched')

Okay
I'm blown away by OHII's sinking mechanics

This liberty ship took a single torpedo to the starboard side just before the superstructure
She slowly started sinking of course and had a little list but they managed to stop the flooding just as the water reached the anchors
Or tought they
The water was slowly filling other compartments in the bow and she although excruciatingly slowly, but kept going down
And when the water started washing the deck, she passed the tipping point and the crew abandoned ship.
It took a full hour in game time for the bow to sink but after passing the point of no return, she plunged with the bow rapidly pulling her under raising the propeller out of the water and the stern towering above the sea
She's my current recorder in sinking time totaling in a full hour and 10 minutes to fully sink after the torpedo hit

And the second one is a Vicotry ship not far behind with 1h and 8min also with a single torpedo but to the stern

Okay not these sinking mechanics doe

Ocean liner steaming towards New York on a freezing january morning
It would be a catastrophe if they would sink in those freezing waters

Oh wait
It did sink

That coloumn of smoke is a flower corvette that I sniped from 5km
I was too inpatient to wait it to pass so waited till they turned their back towards me and couldn't reach me with their bow cannon and surfaced quickly, then boom
Missed like 20 times, landed 3 direct hits

Up close and personal

They have their ups and downs. In general system used by SH5 allows for very realistic sinking mechanics, but in order to make them so damage zones would have to be very, very thoroughly tested ship by ship. And even then, some parts of mechanics are hard to influence by modding, like breaking up which is most common cause of weird behaviour.

...that's part os SH games I always found less than realistic - U-Boat should be inherently less stable firing platform than corvette or destroyer, so it should not be really possible to snipe them from afar without getting obliterated. At least I don't recall any such scenarios from history, though on Pacific US boats did occasionally win duels with some Japanese patrol craft.

Well yea
Not to talk about jumping like 10m out of the water when breaking up
Sort of respawning the broken ship

Meanwhile in SH3 I had a true titanic moment with a merchant sinking in a pretty high angle then there was an explosion and it damn broke in two and the stern fell back on the water
I'm angry to this day that I haven't recorded it lol
