RIP Tony Curtis..Submarine Service Vet
The actor Tony Curtis was laid to rest today. He was a WWII Vet and enlisted into the US Navy after Pearl Harbor. He served in the submarine service on a Tender.
And who can forgot that classic 1950s sub comedy "Operation Petticoat", with the Pink Submarine. The best line in the flick, "We Sank a Truck" RIP Tony! |

Operation Pettycoat was filmed in 1960 in Key West
I was in the Navy, stationed here in 62, and the boat that was used , actually was entirely painted pink for the movie. It still had some pink places the Navy didnt recover in Haze Grey two years later. It also was the only Fleet Boat that had two heads (toilets) The second head was installed for the movie crew, because of the female actors that were aboard during filming. Altho the boat returned to the dock each day, the movie people had the second toilet installed for convienence. It was kept aboard after they left.
