I use a dedicated iodine-based mouthwash solution produced for right this purpose, gargling (so it does not taste as awful as iodine normally would). Others work as well.

None of these things does miracles and wonders, but each of them is a modifier of chances in your favour - some more, some less. Think of it like handwashing when your hands are dirty. Handwashing is a no-brainer, right?

What does the Delta variant mean for the fully vaccinated?

The Delta strain doesn't appear to be intrinsically more fatal, but people infected with the variant have a viral load 1,000 times greater than those infected with earlier mutations, according to preliminary research, and they shed more virus for a longer period of time. The massive quantity of virus means more chances to infect a person's cells, and the more the Delta variant spreads in a community, the higher the odds an individual will come in contact with infected people and get blasted with an amount of coronavirus that will make them sick.

Do the vaccines still work?

Thankfully, yes. All three vaccines approved for emergency use in the U.S. — Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson — and others not yet approved — have proved extremely effective against the Delta variant. The vaccines appear to be about 90 percent effective at preventing serious illness and hospitalization, and 99.5 percent of U.S. COVID-19 deaths this year have been among unvaccinated people. But the vaccine isn't 100 percent effective and it isn't an impenetrable shield against COVID-19, especially when the virus is spreading freely.

This makes zero sense no matter which way you look at it.

The population of Israel is about 9.2 million. If 1 million aren't vaccinated, that means ~90% are - which means effectively herd immunity. If some of that 1 million had covid already (and they most likely have), then they're already at herd immunity.

If the million aren't vaccinated, they're no danger to the rest of the population who are.

Lastly, just from a historical perspective, we've never forced people who have gotten flu or measles vaccines to stay at home over fear of infecting those who aren't vaccinated. This is not any different of a situation.

People will still get covid. People still get infected by all kinds of things they're vaccinated against.

What would really be interesting is to see a peer reviewed randomized study to see if someone who got vaccinated actually still has antibodies as compared to someone who didn't get vaccinated but got covid and recovered... Likewise seeing how severe a case of COVID-19 people who've gotten infected by other coronaviruses in the past have had. Or those who got it last year who get infected with a different variant.

This coronavirus will continue to mutate year after year - there is already evidence indicating that it's going to be an endemic seasonal cold like every other coronavirus that wasn't artificially squashed. The problem is if we allow governments to continue controlling their citizens over a seasonal cold. The problem is that if we end up treating this like seasonal flu, well, the average efficacy of the seasonal flu vaccine is barely 40%.
