At 0800 Change of Watch. 1050 - Tubes IV, II and I (all T-3) serviced. Break. 1100 - Commencing servicing of stern tubes. 1151 - Tube V (EtoFAT) serviced. 1157 - CO₂ - Warning at 1.7%. 1200 - Qu.1666CG - Days Run: 166.0nm - ↗ 153.0nm (19h 05') - ↘ 13.0nm (4h 55') Total: 789.8nm (3tg 22h) - ↗ 772.4nm (3tg 15h 35') - ↘ 17.4nm (6h 25') 499cbm (1cbm in 24h); Course 270°; T=50; Battery 88%; Compressed Air 290Atü. - Lunch Break - 1300 - Commencing servicing of tube VI (T-4). 1351 - Tube VI serviced. 1407 - At Reception Depth. 1410 - Surfaced from S-Tiefe after 2h 10' and 5.6nm since Etmal (Total: 7h 05' and 18.6nm). Weather and Sea unchanged since Sunrise. 1416 - Boat ventilated and Compressed Air Supply filled. 1420 - Charging batteries (82%): Stbd.Diesel, Charging/496RPM; Port.-Diesel, Propulsion/285RPM/8kn. 1545 - Batteries charged: 1h 25' for 18%. Small-Ahead/225RPM/8kn. 2041 - Sundown. Weather and Sea unchanged since Sunrise. 2304 - Incoming F.T.: From B.d.U.: OKW-Report: British troops withdraw from Buthidaung, Burma; Allied naval forces have begun the Operation Retribution blockade, sealing off Tunisia from the sea; German television began broadcasting from studios in Paris. Cmdr.: U 465, 439, 332 have not yet reported since they left Western France. Several challenges received no reply. Their loss must be assumed during the last few days in April when air patrolling was very strong. On 28.4. U 439 and 332 were detailed to assist U 437, who had been damaged. They did not reply to this order either, although they must have been in the vicinity. Search planes sent out did not find U 663, although considering the prevailing sea force this was not extraordinary. No reports were received from the boats detailed to assist. So far, U 663 has not replied to control. She can use only her emergency transmitter and probably cannot get through during heavy weather (antenna awash). Considering all this, we have been able to transit the Bay of Biscay relativly unscathed. RST
