Default Homeland Security Issues Urgent Warnng About QuickTime Windows Vulnerability

I don't think very many people still use QuickTime anymore, but there are still on a lot of machines running Windows with QuickTime installed. Apple is not going to issue any more security fixes for QuickTime even though there are two known serious Windows vulnerabilities:

Just a heads up for those who might be affected...

Thanks, it figures. Don't you just love it - ha!

It may have been installed when I installed SH4 (I didn't want it).... soo, I downloaded "QuickTime 7.7.9" for "Windows 7 and Windows Vista" just to have if the SH4 DVD doesn't work. I don't even recall what SH4 uses it for.

Happy Hunting!

IIRC, didn't the various releases of SH use QuickTime to run their videos? Also, as you pointed out, QT is often installed as part of some software programs, games in particular, as a matter of course, and, often as a requirement to run the main software. There may be a lot of people out there who have QT on their machines and either not be aware of the installations or have forgotten about its existence...

If you need a workaround for QT, installing any of the various good media players will do; just change the preferred file association to the new player instead of QT...

One of the best is VLC Media Player. Free. Open source. Plays anything you can throw at it with no trouble to you. You can dump Quicktime and never miss it.
