Default Aces of the Deep with no sound?

I grabbed this REAL cheap. Bout a dollar for the download.

I start the game and there is no sound. I got this on DOSBox. Plays fine, but no sound.

Run SOUNDSET.EXE and make sure your Sound Blaster settings match what DosBox uses as a default. The IRQ setting is usually the culprit...just like it was back in the old DOS days.

If you payed a dollar to download this game then you got a bad deal. If you are interested in this game I would highly suggest getting an actual copy of it. Any version of the game that you download off of a website is likely to have problems.

If you are going to download a copy of the game to test it out, do not pay for it. Do not run an exe file that you download from a website. A working copy of this game will be distributed as a zip file. I can't help you any more than that, as even discussing these matters in a gray area of legality.

I purchased both my copies of this game off of amazon.com. If you go that route I suggest getting the regular dos version of the game. The Windows version is called "Command: Aces of the Deep" and it is full of bugs. Get the original dos version and run it in dosbox.

If you have the most recent version of dosbox (v.74, if I recall correctly) Aces will run flawlessly once it is installed.

Your sound issues are probably due to having an incomplete copy of the game.

If you can put up with the dated graphics and sound it still has some of the best gameplay out there.

Wait until you have a novice destroyer run right over your position at flank speed and start dropping depth charges a mile in the wrong direction.

Wait until you see the newspaper reports of your progress. Or your death.

Wait until you bottom your boat and it works. And then you get stuck in the mud and have to blow ballast and back and reverse until you finally break free. Or not, and you and your crew all suffocate.

Wait until you request a new grid assignment...and get one.

Wait until your first wolfpack.

These days I like all the additions and the feel of SH3, but AOD still has its charms, and they are many.

For the Pacific, SH1 is right up there with it.
