He has demanded an apology from the Japanese government, but a statement from the country's embassy in Canberra said the details surrounding the sinking were inconclusive.
Even when details are conclusive they never seem to apologise

You beat me to it, just read it in a Danish newspaper, so I have a link for that plus another English-Australian source:
http://politiken.dk/udland/article877090.ece
http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/s...62-952,00.html

Yes, very sad. I don't hope they did it on purpose, but rather as a result of bad weather, but still... none of the sources mentions this.

Quite true. I remember there was talk of a formal apology for the Pearl Harbor attack on the 50th anniversary. Didn't happen though.

I doubt Japan will ever make a formal apology and or offer compensation for the brutal acts performed during the last world war.....quite simply, she is too economically powerful and knows she can depend on armed assistance from the USA if ever attacked by the Chinese.

There are many I believe who still adhere to the priciple that the atomic bomb was too quick and efficient...but I'll not comment further or admit to whether I agree with said principle or otherwise.

I considered saying something about the bombs but also figured that can of worms is best left shut.
