radar Q: Does SH3 work for Mac M1?

I have always been into U-Boats and after I discovered Silent Hunter III I decided I want to buy it. Since it currently only costs 1,3€ on Steam I decided to buy it from there. But, before I waste my money, I wanted to make sure that the game runs properly on my Mac Book Air M1. Does anybody know whether SH3 runs smoothly on Mac Book Silicone?

Thanks

It should be possible in theory, but I think you are boldly going where no man has gone before. Expect a certain amount of pain.

SH3 and associated mods run fine using the Wine compatibility program on x86 Linux, machines only a small amount of messing with the config required (see http://winehg.org, specifically https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManag...ation&iId=3793).
The freeware Wine is supposed to run on MacOS and M1, see https://www.tomshardware.com/news/wine-uncorks-on-m1

if money is not a problem (hell, you've got a mac, you have loads of cash, or used to have...) there is the wine-derived crossover https://www.codeweavers.com/compatib...ent-hunter-iii or the slightly different parallels https://www.parallels.com.

Good luck!

PS most folks buy the game on Steam these days to keep Ubisoft happy but actually install OneAlex GWX or Fifi's NYGM enhanced hardcore which are all modded up and do not require the original game files any more. See the stickies at the top of the SH3 mods forum on this site.

Small correction, my NYGM enhanced needs original vanilla game first… due to lack of space on my Mediafire page

sorry Fifi. Blame it on old age. I actually installed your mod a couple of months ago and I've already forgotten what I did.

I'm afraid both your mod and Onealex were too much for my ancient laptop and its intel integrated graphics, I only got about 4fps in the 3d view. I have to say it was a nice looking slideshow.
